I have an IBM Thinkpad T22 with W2k (don't laugh!!!) Rarely used, but needed to use it recently to read some car data from the car's ECU.
Inevitably, the CMOS battery is virtually dead. I know it can be replaced but being a cheap-skate, I already have a CR2032 as a regular, button cell with no attached wires.
Is it possible to remove the dead battery and solder the new one to the existing plug?
The heat required to home solder wires to a battery would damage it. You'd also need to wrap/protect it properly with quality heat shrink material. Proper replacements aren't that expensive.
