What do you do when Take Ownership doesn't work

I've tried the manual method and the application but I can't get full control of the Checkpoint folder, which I believe was put there by Zonealarm.

What do I have to do?

    Thanks - rev

Have you uninstalled Zone Alarm? If not, it is probably preventing that.

What is your ultimate goal if you are keeping Zone Alarm?

I uninstalled Zonealarm using Revo but it failed to take everything off. After the reboot, I still got a Zonealarm dialog saying my system is protected. I tried the manual method of changing permissions but 'Access Denied.' Then I tried Take Ownership the manual and the app, then I tried Icacls, all result in Access Denied.
I talked to Zonealarm and they have a Clean Uninstall tool - but that didn't work because Revo had partially uninstalled Zonealarm.

I guess I've got to reinstall Zonealarm and then use their uninstall tool?

Yes, you will need to re-install Zone Alarm, and then use their uninstaller to stop all process and remove their folders.

I just reinstalled but when I tried the clean tool I got 'Zonealarm has stopped working' (Cancel is the only option)

Hmm, maybe you can try Geekuninstaller using the Force Removal option?

    https://geekuninstaller.com/

You could also check Services.msc to see if any Zonealarm processes are running.

Reboot, and check Event Viewer for any issues during the reboot. Zone Alarm needs to be working correctly again before you can uninstall using their uninstaller. It may be that the attempt to Take Ownership of the folder now has Zone Alarm blocked from accessing it.
