So did you do an actual shutdown before you tried sleep again? What applications are running when you put it to sleep?

Did you check the Event Viewer for any errors regarding sleep?

    Hey guys, whassup?

ttodd, FWIW, I believe my next step in your situation would be to try and repair Windows 10.

To do this you need to "upgrade" Windows -- I know, sounds weird --, using the same edition of Windows that's already installed. This "upgrade" requires Windows 10 installation media, which you can obtain using Microsoft's free Media Creation Tool.

Download the correct Windows 10 ISO and then double-click it to mount it as a virtual drive. (Or if you prefer, you can create a bootable USB flash drive, open that removable drive in File Explorer and double-click "Setup" to begin the process).

When it asks if you want to download updates, recommend selecting "Yes" to avoid potential problems.

When prompted what you want to keep --[Important]-- choose "Keep personal files and apps".

Now simply follow the prompts to finish setup.

After a couple restarts, you'll have a refreshed installation of Windows 10, with your programs, apps, and settings all intact.

already have the latest edition.. I also realize I could reinstall all of windows 10 to fix this problem..

But that seemed like a far reached idea than just a simple registry fix ...

I guess this problem of windows not waking up from sleep is pretty rare .. therefore not a simple remedy ..

It may well be nothing more than a simple registry fix. Problem is, exactly which of the gadzillions of registry entries is it?

The above instructions refreshes (repairs) your current installation of Windows 10. while leaving all of your programs, apps, and settings intact. And btw, it does work. I've used it several times.

Note: In my experience, Sleep has NEVER worked properly or consistently in any version of Windows. I never even attempt to use it. I set the monitor(s) to power off after a certain length of time, and everything else (hard drives, network adapters, USB devices, etc.) stays running.

I reinstalled windows ( with saved files). twice in 24 hours .. why twice ? well the first tiem the monitor went black during the install and would not wake up.. The install was within the windows programs itself ( settings).. so I restarted.. it continued off.. and during the day noticed again the PC would not wake up.. So I did a second reinstall this time off the reboot process.. Tab/ default/ options .. this time it did not shut off.. and am currnetly reinstalling all my programs and short cuts .. BIG job ...

But I did a sleep mode and it did not wake up again .. I checked a you tube video on the subject and found one that gave two options to fix .. the first one wa to to do a alt/control/delete to wake .. ( if it was that easy... never-mind).. the second option was a registry fix but in looking at the avenue in regedit I had all the necessary ticks and wording ( explorer.exe) was the one I had already ..

so I don't know if it is a hardware or software issue ...

Have you checked the Power settings? Post a list of what you have each of the following hardware items set to do on the power plan you are using:

    Hard Drive
    Monitor
    Network Adapter

What happens if you try to use hibernate instead of sleep?

VirtualDr email notices are not working.
    Check back regularly for responses.
