Midknyte meant a different port on the router. The cable should just be a standard Ethernet cable, with an 8 conductor plug on each end. You could try a different cable also, if you have one.

Yes, a different Ethernet port on the router.

Ah, sorry I misunderstood. But I restarted the router this morning from a different socket on the router but unfortunately it's made no difference. I don't have a different cable to try.

So are you still getting DHCP errors?

    Did Malwarebytes find anything?

Malwarebytes showed 9 threats and I've attached the text file here. Thanks.

The text file from Malwarebytes doesn't reveal much to me. Can anyone tell me if there's anything there that would account for the problems I'm having. And should I have quarantined these errors? Thanks.

I would uninstall Slim Cleaner and remove all items found by Malwarebytes.

I would use 7-Zip instead of Winzip also.

Thanks Midknyte. Actually I wasn't even aware that I had Slim Cleaner. I had something called CCleaner and I've now uninstalled that. I've just done a search for Slim Cleaner and it only appears in the Malwarebytes diagnostic file.

Also, Winzip doesn't appear in the list of programs that can be uninstalled.

CCleaner is not the same as Slim Cleaner. Did you run Malwarebytes again and remove whatever it found?

Are you still getting DHCP errors or not?

I've just run Malwarebytes now and it said everything was error free, so I guess it must have removed whatever was giving me the errors before.

I've also just looked at the Event Viewer and it says I've had one DHCP error in the last 24 hours and 10 in the last 7 days. It says:
Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0xC83A35CD6757. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.

I resolved the same issue by disabling my Wireless Connection #2 (Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adaptor) network adapter. I found this by comparing the MAC address listed in the error message with the output of CMD>ipconfig /all. Noticed that this adapter continuously tried to communicate with my DHCP server, and I wasn't even using it.
You do have the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adaptor in your ipconfig, so you could try disabling it in Device Manager.

Thanks again for your help. I've just disabled the MS VWMA so I'll see if it cures the problem and report back.

Since I disabled MS VWMA the problems I have been having have only got worse, so I guess I need to re-enable it(?)

Which of the several problem symptoms are you now still getting? Freezing, as in post #1?

Re-enabling the MS VWMA will likely not help if you are not using it anyway, although you could try that as a test.
