Resolved [RESOLVED] Bill Paying and Security Concerns

I pay some of my bills online, as I'm sure many people do. I'm working to catch up after spending five weeks out of country. Things seem to have changed.

I've hit a problem with AT&T and with Comcast. Both sites refuse to connect me to the account area siting security concerns with my browser, and tell me I must either update my browser or switch browsers. I am using Firefox v54.0.1. It seems to me that this is fairly recent, and should be acceptable.

I don't care to change browsers, and I seem to recall that there are issues with v57. What would those issues be?

How can I work around this problem?

My desktop system is a middle age Dell running Windows 7 sp1, 32 bit.

Old style extensions no longer work.

Thank you, sir. I see it's time to start reading again. If it's only extensions I may be somewhat safe. I have only three extensions running at this time: Avast Online Security, UBlock Origin, and Download UTube videos as MP4. I'll have to check which type of extension these are.

What about PlugIns? How safe, or limited, are they?

    v54.0.1
That's an old version. If you still want to use older extensions, you should switch to the Firefox 52 ESR channel. However, that will only be updated until June 2018 or so.

As for Plugins, I think Adobe Flash is one of the few supported ones still left.

I don't use Avast, so I can't comment on that addon. uBlock Origin is already supported in FF57+ (AKA Quantum).

I can't find "Download UTube videos as MP4". Is that the exact spelling?

This is the one I use. It was rewritten for FF Quantum, but the older version still works on FF ESR.

I've upgraded FireFox to v57.0.2, which I believe is the current version. I am still unable to bring up AT&T and all, or Comcast "My Account". This is getting to be a royal pain.

    I've switched the YouTube downloader.

    Any further thoughts?

Did you try clearing out your cookies and cache?

Just tried that, and it made no difference. Could there be a setting within FF which is causing this?

Did you try disabling the Avast add-on and/or uBlock Origin?

You could download the portable version of FF57. Just extract to your Desktop. If that works, then we know something is up with your installed Firefox.

I tried again this morning. I disabled Avast, and had no problem getting into both Comcast and AT&T. I then re-enabled Avast, and again had no problem with either site. The problem seems to be solved, though I'm not sure how or why.

If it happens again you can try adding the websites as exceptions into the web shield component of Avast.
    Don't believe everything you think.

VirtualDr email notices are not working.
