Using an M.2 for the OS?

Hello,

The last time I built a computer the M.2 didn't exist. I was starting to put together a new build and I have started to do some research.

But I'm very confused. Is a standard SSD better/faster than an M.2? Is an M.2 built into the motherboard better than a pci express M.2?

I guess what I'd like to know is if the board comes with the M.2 socket, would I be stupid to ignore it?

PCI-E will be your BEST choice, also your most expensive. M.2 would probably be a great compromise on price/performance. Up to 10Gb/s transfers on those M.2 drives, so they are FAST. SATA SSDs are purely economical these days. Performance caps are kind of a hindrance on the real high end systems, so I'd go M.2.

For my usage, yes I have been tracking the PCIE / M.2 business, SATA SSD is still fast enough for me.
