    Lost Tax Record's

I have a folder with about 20 years of tax record's & half of them show a Zipper ( Compressed Files )
When i try to open a PDF or Word file i get the attached message.
    Also some are .OFM
How could this have happened to these files & how can i repair them ?

How did you compress the document? Use that program to decompress. Windows comes with a compression app. Right click|Send To should show a decompress option.

If you were able to open the document recently, try a System Restore.

Are those zip files? If so, use an app like 7-zip to open them first.

Part of the program did that for you.
Possibly LibreOffice will easily open them. as that ,odf is the default format.

But first read the Software part of this.

What program did you use for the tax records? I googled .ofm and it says Nuance Omniform. Maybe the program compressed them automatically.

Do you have a backup of the files?

7-Zip has a good encryption routine built into it.

Forgot to mention with 7-Zip's encryption, the file names can be encrypted/obfuscated if you use the .7z file extension instead of .zip. If you don't need that, the .zip extension works fine.
