Win 7 reformat: 166 Windows Updates!
I'm using Win 7 64 Home Pro, with 8 gigs RAM, a 5450 video card, Gigabyte Mobo. I just reformatted my machine after it became unstable. I've learned from previous reformats and it only took two attempts. After installing about thirty updates things were fine for a day or two. Then it presented me with 166 updates. I let them run but the updates failed. I turned off the auto-update function and am now asking you fine people: do I need these updates? It's an old machine with a new-ish hard drive and I don't want to go to Win 10. According to WU there are 148 "important" updates and 65 optional. I just ran Microsoft's Win Update fixit tool, and I could try again.
Thanks

I don't usually install important or optional updates; only critical.

EDIT: If Autopatcher is used, before use, change Windows update settings to Never check for updates (not recommended). After all desired updates are applied with Autopatcher, you can go back to using Windows updates if desired.
