As you might suspect, lawyers were involved.

There was no lawyer involved, there was a problem with privacy settings and there was a problem for some people having windows 10 pro, the download tool would download the home version of windows instead of the pro version, and it was creating havoc on systems with encryption enabled. Microsoft was able to correct these few bugs and they are putting the latest build online again.

Microsoft's lawyers certainly weren't responsible for the problem, however, they were very likely behind Microsoft's lack of accurate communication regarding why the update was pulled and what was being done about it.

Major Fall Update To Windows 10
Alright so I really dont know a whole bunch about computers. I have an Alienware m17x R3 that had windows 7 but updated to the free Windows 10. After the update my computer loads up until right before login with no cursor and a blinking underscore or dash. I have the windows 7 disk that came with my computer and tried to do a clean install but after its done the computer restarts and goes back into the black screen with no cursor. I cant get into safe mode and really dont know what to do.

Try resetting the BIOS to factory defaults.
