can a harddrive from HP pavillion DV7 be transferred..?

I have a a 6 year old HP pavillion dv7.. it works perfectly and has all the bells and whistles I need already installed on my desktop..

problem is the video card within the mother board is on the fritiz .. no matter how many times I install the latest drivers or uninstall and reinstall the video drivers the screen resolution /and desktop graphics have a 'turquoise (light green) 'sheen' or lines within 'some of' but not all the white backgrounds .. of either my own icons or the web designs of pages on the internet ..
therefore i am under the impression that the laptop has to be replaced ... If I buy an identical model or at least an HP brand can the harddrive be swapped over over ......???

ready to buy this week and need to know if it can great ! if it can't I might as well buy another make and model ...

    thanks

Unless you are purchasing a used laptop of the same exact model, which would likely have the same issue by this time, the existing installation of Windows would not work in the new laptop. The hard drive might physically fit in the new laptop, although you would need to verify this by checking the specs on the new laptop with the size (thickness) of your current hard drive, but at the very least you would need to perform an over-the-top install of Windows to get all of the drivers you need for the new laptop installed.

both new laptop and my old laptop would both have windows 8.1 does this help ? and can I at least get it up and running and then update newer drivers once harddrive is installed?

(( I removed attachment because you can't see the ''sheen'' unless you have the same problem.. IOW it can't be copied .. only viewed on offending machine ))

Monitor is fine .. but have been running some further tests .. found out that when PC is off or sleeping the screen is good ( normal appearance no blue/green lines when started up but within a few minutes of working (with my laptop) the problem comes back.. ,, then discovered of course that the upper left corner of this laptop runs very hot.. and of course is not hot when first started up .. so have plugged in a usb driven miniature fan to run the this area to keep the CPU cooler..

Do you think the hot CPU is disrupting the drivers or the video as described in the post above..?

You might want to clean the air vents and cpu/video card cooler fans.
