USB3 Internal
I installed a USB3 PCIE card which has 3 ports on the back and one internal. Can I just pull off the existing 2.0 internal and connect it to the 3.0 card? Any connection type issues?
Thanks - rev

I suggest getting a 3.0 Extension cable and use it. The route I took.
USB 3.0 had 9 wires vs the 5 in USB 2.0
USB 2.0 provides up to 500 mA whereas USB 3.0 provides up to 900 mA.

You mean the cable is different, I can't just use what I have?
The connections on the card look like regular USB. Can I forget all about the 2,0 and just run a cable out through a hole in the case?

You could try it, if transfer speeds are in the 20 MB/sec, then you are only getting USB2 speeds
74 MB/sec is about average for my USB 3.0

I googled it, the cables have to be 3.0 for full 3.0 speed, so I have to do some shopping. Once I have the cables, I'll try using the 3.0 cable through a hole in the case because the 2.0 connection on the top front of the case won't be correct. If I could change the socket i.e. mount the correct end of the 3.0 extension into the case, that would be different but it looks really hard to get at. Much easier to hold the new cable in place with some duck tape.

Why don't you just get a USB 3.0 hub?
Something like this:

Because I've already bought and installed the equivalent only for the back panel and I'd still need 3.0 USB cables for a hub. I don't have to connect the internal I can just use the ones on the back panel but I'd like to have them all working.

The hub comes with a USB 3.0 cable.

Yeah, but where would I connect it? There's no support for 3.0 on this motherboard, it didn't exist at the time. I had to get a PCIE card.

You would plug the hub into one of the USB3.0 ports on the PCIe card.

Plug into the card.
Bring it around to the front and plug in the hub. Now the hub is ready to receive other devices.
Works well for me.

A hub (only) wouldn't work because there would be nowhere to connect it.
Once I have the card I don't need a hub because the card is a hub, it's just at the back.

What do you mean? I thought you installed the PCIe card already? I thought you wanted ports in the front. So rather than running a cable through your PC, you could get a hub. That was my point.

Yes, we're talking at crossed purposes. I'll use 3 cables coming off the back and one internal up through a hole in the case. With that config I'm happy, I have everything I need.
Edit: Actually, yeah, a hub would be better. Thanks.
