Did you run hard drive diags? If it got stuck on chkdsk, the drive could be going bad.

hard drive diags? what is it...and what it has to do with some keyboard keys misprinting?
also very slow...could be wrong drivers?
if I remember right there was an additional service pack for XPSP2
    thanks

Hard drive diagnostics. If you had problems with chkdsk, there could be issues with the hard drive. You'd need to find the brand of the hard drive and then boot from the diagnostic CD. Or you can download UBCD5 from the link in my signature and run the appropriate manufacturer's diagnostics from there.

I've seen strange issues with bad hard drives. It's best to make sure the hardware is good before you waste time troubleshooting software.

If anything, you should be running XP SP3. And even that hasn't been supported by Microsoft for almost a year now.

And after running the hard drive diagnostics, do the same against the memory (RAM). The software to do that is on that same UBCS5.

If WinXP was clean installed and system is still slow,
And if the hard drive and memory diagnostics displays no errors
Check that the drivers installed is as current as possible.
    Cheers.

I never use "driver finder" software. Did you check the Asus website for the drivers? You don't need to have the latest drivers, just ones that work.

Did you run hard drive and memory diagnostics or not?

You didn't tell us what brand of hard drive you have.

If you use UBCD5, you need to download the .iso file, burn it as an IMAGE to a CD, then boot from the CD. Do NOT run diagnostics from within Windows.

If you don't know how to burn .iso files, read this:

First things first, run the Western Digital DataLifeguard diagnostics. Run the quick test first. If that passes, run the extended test.

As for the drivers, you would look in Device Manager to see which devices are not installed yet. Depending on what you are installing you would usually run the .exe installer file or point Device Manager to the .inf driver file.

If you have a BLANK USB flash drive, you could run WD DataLifeguard diags from that.

I pass WD DataLifeguard diags, straight from the app. says OK
I switched to selective start on MsConfig, dont seems faster.
drivers missing on DM with a yellow fla are Usb speakers, have tried manytimes to add drivers but impossible, and no speakers.
    thanks

    What antivirus are you using?
A couple are real speed killers.
