    My 2 cents...

Every broadband user should be using network address translation (NAT). It provides excellent IP address attack protection. Eg., If your connection's public address is 206.xxx.xxx.xxx and NAT has made your private address 10.xxx.xxx.xxx, any attacks directed to 206.xxx.xxx.xxx are dropped. The router is what sits on 206.xxx.xxx.xxx and it's not your computer. Your computer sits on 10.xxx.xxx.xxx and that address is not routable on the public internet. Some ISPs provide modems that include NAT routers. Some do not. If your's does not, you should absolutely get one on your own.

Using anonymous surfing proxies is not a perfect answer for hiding one's internet use. They can do handy things for specific purposes (like fink's video viewing noted above). But, one should always realize that in order for the internet to work, a computer at one IP address must communicate with another at it's IP address. (If you wish to view a page on your browser, the page you've asked to see must come back to your computer. So someone, somewhere must know where you (IP address-wise) are. No way to avoid it!) Beyond this, users should realize anonymising proxies can examine ALL of your unencrypted traffic you run through them (and they also see where you are sending all of your encrypted traffic). So one should always ask, are they worthy of my trust? It's like adding a second ISP. Even the fully end to end encrypted proxy known as The Onion Router (TOR) was cracked for catching some bad guys in the last year or so. Bottom line, don't assume anonymous proxies are the perfect answer. Nothing is perfect.

Just plugged my IP addy into http://ipaddress.com/ip_lookup/ and it missed my location by 1800 miles. I find that heart warming.

Steve - Oh, no..I didn't mean this site! I trust Virtual DR completely! I meant the forum I was posting on with the IT posters. If he did in fact get my real address, can I report him to law enforcement since it's illegal to do that?

Thank you for all that 'good to know' info, HAN. Train, lucky! Is that your router doing that for you?

Laws can vary in different jurisdictions. If you're truly concerned I would call your local police dept or FBI office and
    ask them for advice.

VirtualDr email notices are not working.
    Check back regularly for responses.

I'm definitely going to do that because, even though it may not be for any reason than wanting to know my street address, my privacy has been violated. I never chose to give him my address, but he chose to find it out using methods that are illegal.
