    Problems with Adobe Flash

When I am browsing the web on my PC Windows XP SP3) in the morning, I often come across sites that have videos embedded in them. When this occurs, I get a black box with the message, "Must install adobe flash (or latest version, etc). When I try to do this, I get a message that I can only have one version running on this PC at once. I deleted Adobe Shockwave flash from my PC and tried to reinstall the latest version of Adobe Flash, but got the same message. Any fixes?

    RonJohn--
Shockwave and Flash are two different programs. Try uninstalling Flash using the uninstaller offered here
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/...r-windows.html
    Now try installing Flash again.

    What browser/version are you using?

What version of Flash did you install? There are separate installers for IE and "plugin" browsers (Firefox).

I am using Firefox 26.0 and have been trying to install Flash Vers. 12.0.0.43. When I go to the uninstall page, there is a box there that states if you have flash installed, the version will appear. If not, an error message will appear. The box is blank.

    Do you mean this page?

Download the uninstaller and uninstall Flash. Then you can download and reinstall the exe for plugin based browsers.

Yes, that is the page I was referring to, Midknyte.

Another odd thing about this process...when I go to the file that I downloaded the flash file to and click on it, it just disappears and never opens. This has happened on several occasions. The rest of the time, I get the message that I can only have one version of the flash running at once.

I have used the uninstaller, went to the adobe page and downloaded the correct file and once again got the window that states, "Only a single instance of this application can run."

So you ran the uninstaller and then manually deleted the old Flash files/folders?

It sounds like the installer is running in the background. Check Task Manager to see if there are multiple installer instances.

If anything, reboot the system and run install_flash_player_12_plugin.exe again.

For whatever reason, the installation seemed to work this time. Thanks again for all your help, Midknyte.

Aden123--You are copying a printed URL off a webpage rather than copying it off the Address line. The address off the webpage has been shortened and does not contain all the information of the URL. Alternatively you can copy it from the webpage by right clicking on the URL and then "Copy Shortcut".
However this URL was already offered in post #2.
