Documents folder
Hi,
Ive got a doc folder on a usb hard drive with about 50 little movie
and tv clips in there
I click to open the folder, see all the icons in there and about 6 secs later a window comes up.... windows has encountered a problem and we need to close.......... and the window disappears.
In case the prob was the usb h d I moved the entire folder to another
hard drive.......... same result.
Is there anything I can do ?
thanks for help or comment

If the files came off another machine's My Doc folder, the following might help:

That may also be a problem with Windows truing to show thumbnails/previews of the files. You could try changing the view settings for the folder to not show thumbnails/previews.

I think Ive had movie clips before that you play them and they freeze your system.... I ve had to delete them... with difficulty ...
But this time its affecting a complete documents folder with 50 or more movie clips in there... each prob only 2 or 3 mins long.
I tried opening it and quickly trying to move one or two files out into another folder, but the window came up... windows has encountered a problem ...
There must be some toxic file in there thats causing everything to freeze up !

It may actually be a file type (extension) that is causing the problem. You could try creating a new folder, and then using a Command Prompt window and old style DOS COPY commands, copy ONE file at a time to the new folder. Then, try to open the new Folder in Windows Explorer and see if you get the error.

quote
then using a Command Prompt window and old style DOS COPY commands,
end quote
you must know that the above is way over my head !
But xn view seems to have come to my rescue... I hit browse in xn view
and from there Im am ... moving.... the files to my documents.
a few already have refused to m0ve... maybe the dodgy file is among them
Ill move what I can and then delete the doc file.... at least Ill have resued 99% of
my stuff !!!
