This site have gone through' a few software / servers changes over the years but it never really has any major problem before. What has gone wrong this time? We all want to be understanding and patient about it, but ... it really has been really bad for a really l-o-n-g time. It took me 5 connection attempts to even get on the site and 2 attempts to post this reply!

We are long time members, so we'll be more forgiving but for new comers, I don't think they will stick with us ... in this days and age when instant gratification is a must for most people.

The last few days, things seem to go very slow in waves. Sometimes OK, sometimes very slow or not functioning at all.

Pretty soon it's going to be 2 months since the issue started.
In my opinion people who own this site don't care at all.
    Oh well...

    This still applies.

To add to the complications – the old datacenter is being shut down and time is quickly running out to move the remaining sites that haven’t been upgraded.

AND, the people that would normally work on the performance issues are the same people involved in the upgrade… It’s a catch 22.

We kindly ask for your continued patience.
Only new news is that the old data center is shutting down this coming Monday.

Besides VDR, I visit 19 other sister sites off an on over a 14 hour period each day all week long. I've found that the "issues" only show up maybe 5 to 10% of the time I'm on line.

It can be frustrating as heck to not be able to get on a site... But the issues seem to clear up by themselves in a few minutes.

At some point all of this will be a distant memory.

The site owners definitely do care, I can assure everyone of that. I've seen some of the internal emails that have been flying about. Unfortunately, as Steve said, it has become a bit "perfect storm", what with the database moves and everything. Thus, it is taking longer than it usually would to get things back to normal. But it isn't through any lack of caring, or any lack of effort on anyone's part.

Site speed and page loading times have been ok for me for the last few days.

VirtualDr email notices are not working.
    Check back regularly for responses.

Same here. Now, if only they fix the search also, it'll be great.

It feels definitely better but I'd say 75% of what was before.

The search function appears to be working much better. I'm not sure if the re-indexing is complete - but posts from years back are showing up.

Doesn't appear to be quite at 100% yet.

To test, try the following two-part test:

    Part 1 - VirtualDR's Advanced Search
    1. Go to Advanced Search

    2. In the Keyword(s): box, type in:

      boycotted

    3. In the "User Name:" box, type in:

      BIG JOHN

    4. Click the "Search Now" button.

The response you get back from VirtualDr is:

Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

Part 2 - Google VirtualDr for the same thing
    1. Go to Google.com, type in:

      site:discussions.virtualdr.com "big john" boycotted

      and press [Enter].

The first hit will be the following VirtualDr BIG JOHN thread from 1998:

Just searching for boycotted found his thread... But, doing the same test in a few days will be a good test.

I came to the conclusion that the test above was a bad one. The thread from 1998 was pre vBulletin and BIG JOHN is shown as a guest...Thus John wouldn't be in the index.

I then did a search for Inspiron and Steve R Jones which found among other things the thread from 2004 that I was expecting it to find:
