[RESOLVED] Can't Connect to Internet
Hi,
I'm not sure if this should be in Internet Issues or if in Windows 7 or Laptops...but here is what is going on. I'm sure I'm leaving out tons of info., but here we go...
A friend just recently purchased a Mi-Fi Hotspot. One laptop and an I-Pod Touch can connect w/o a problem. However, another laptop running Win 7 will not load pages. From a different location (I haven't been to the house) I can ping google and get replies. Had someone tell us to disable McAffee so did that still nothing. This computer will not even connect when I have it plugged in.
Any help / suggestions appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

That's a little confusing. So you tried connecting to the mifi and and a different network not at your friend's house? And then you tried a wired connection somewhere else? Is this your friend's laptop?
Did you scan your system for spyware?
Did you look at the network settings? Are you using DHCP?
Get the ipconfig info off that system and post it here.
From a command prompt:
ipconfig /all > ipconfig.txt
copy it over to your working system with a flash drive or something.

Sorry for the confusion, easy to do when I'm confused myself!
She brought the mifi to work and we were trying to figure it out from here. I am the first one to confess this is brand spanking new stuff for me. When it wouldn't connect to that yes we plugged it into our (wired) network and still no luck. Yes, this is her laptop - technically her daughter's.
No, did not scan for spyware.
DHCP I'm not sure, sorry.
I can't get ipconfig /all > ipconfig.txt to work..
Thanks

What browser did you use? Did you look for any proxy settings? If it's the work network, are you sure you don't have a proxy there?
I guessing this is a Verizon Mifi? Are you sure you entered the SSID and passphrase correctly?
Did you look for the ipconfig.txt file? It would be in whatever your ran the .exe from. If you run just ipconfig /all, it will show you the IP configuration info.

She's telling me that she spoke to the Verizon guy and went through all the steps with him, and he thinks it could be a Windows 7 / Mifi issue.
IE
Did not look for Proxy settings...
She is sure she entered the SSID and passphrase correctly.
I have the info from ipconfig, but can't figure out how to get it on the flash drive.

I don't see any network connections at all. DHCP is enabled.
You're supposed to see IP info for one of the two (depending on wired or wireless), NOT disconnected.

For some strange reason, the Default Gateway is wrong, which explains the problem. I confess I'm a bit mystified as to how it has managed to get like that
Would it be possible to plug the computer in using an Ethernet cable, then post another set of Ipconfig results after that?
Nick.

Absolutely possible, will post it very soon.
I don't know how it could've been scrambled, they told me it was working just fine before the Mi-Fi.
There must be a lot of gremlins about because their thumb drive isn't working either. Had to use mine and it worked just fine. Go figure...
Thanks again.
