Belkin Wireless Router Blocking Printer Sharing
I have a Windows XP Home desktop that has a printer connected to it and is shared. I have a Windows Vista Home Premium laptop that I want to be able to print to the Windows XP Home shared printer. This is all connected through a Belkin Wireless router.
If I hardwire the Vista laptop to the Belkin router I can see the XP Shared printer and can print fine. But, if I go wireless with the Vista laptop through the same Belkin router I can no longer see the XP printer or any of the shared folders on the XP machine. I have not found a solution for this yet. Has anybody experienced this?

It sounds like your firewall software on the laptop may be to blame.

It works hardwired fine just not wireless. I did turn the firewall off while connected wireless and it didn't make a difference. Still couldn't see the printer or any shared folders on the XP desktop.

What IP address gets assigned to the laptop when it is using the wired connection? What IP is assigned using the wireless connection. Post those here.

I will have to get that information for you. I am not at the house right now. There must be something in the firewall of the Belkin router that is blocking wireless connections from accessing network shares on computers that are conected to it and are in the same workgroup.

That is possible, or it is possible that you are being assigned an IP address on a diffferent range when connected using the wireless setup.

Wonder if he is not using a Guest account in the wireless.
Never connect if that is true.

Definitely some type of firewall restriction in the Belkin router. If I turn off the Belkin Wireless Router's firewall I can then see all network shares including printers wirelessly. I have never run across this before.

The manual:

Page 56 , OUCH, it is a all or nothing type thing.
Was in hope you could adjust it.
