    Random computer shut down

A short while ago I used the ICU to get help removing a trojan from my computer. Since that time, I've been running AVAST, Secunia PSI, TFC and Malwarebytes weekly. Unfortunately, I've also been having issues with my PC shutting down unexpectedly and then when it reboots, I get the screen that asks me if I want to restart in safe mode (this can happen when I'm actively working or when the computer is idle; on batter and on power). I've spent today running malware tests with Broni and he has declared me clean. This is a great relief, but it still doesn't resolve me problem.

He suggested that I run a program called Blue-Screen something and I'm posting the log below. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

    Log results:

If this was only happening when in sleep mode, then it would most likely be due to hardware or a driver that does not wake up properly (for the ntkrnlpa.exe BSOD, or a USB device the is plugged in and doesn't power up again (usbhub.sys). However, if it happens while the system is in use, there other possibilities:

    1. Low power issue - bad power supply or laptop battery and/or charger.

    2. Overheating issue - check temps with SpeedFan or similar software.

    3. Memory problem - Test memory with the memory test software on the Ultimate Boot CD (MemTest86 or Windows Memory Diagnostic).

    4. Corrupted device drivers for network adapter or USB hub

    update

I just replaced my battery as I originally thought my battery just wasn't holding the charge, but when I plugged it back into the outlet and then checked the battery meter, I was still at 84%. I ran the battery test and my battery register poor, so I just replaced it, but I've had the shutdown issue since.

I just finished memory test. No issue.

Downloaded speedfan. Readings are GPU 62C, HD1 42C, HD0 52C, temp1 50C, and core 52C. The graphic icons make me think these are bad, but I don't know how to interpret or if I have an issue, what to do next.

How do I know if I have a corrupt driver or usb port. I've been getting a device driver error for one of my usb port (when I don't have anything plugged into the usb ports). I don't know what to do about this and I don't have that error currently (it seems to come and go).

Yeah gad which model do you have? There must be 60 versions of the dv9000.

This will help you figure it out.

The chipset driver should fix the usb problem. Make sure you get the right version.

    Train, you are most excellent!

Thanks for the NVIDIA tip. I've installed.

Knew about the batter issue, but my number wasn't on the list.

I'm on battery number 3 (including the one that came with purchase).

Thanks for taking the time to help.

Let me know if you come up with anything else and I'll keep you posted.

Question Update - More help needed

    Hey Train,
I've been running smoothly since your help and then a couple of days ago I got the message again about windows can't find the driver for a USB device, but I didn't have anything plugged into my USB ports at the time.

I just flipped open the laptop and got the windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown message. I was directed to this webpage: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2547549. I'm not sure this is right because I am running Vista 32-bit.

    Any guidance?

    Lost again, Rita

You have Vista 32-bit, so you would want the:
"All supported x86-based versions of Windows Vista"

x86 and in your case, 32-bit are basically the same thing.

To apply this update, you must be running Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

    service pack 2 question

Sorry I was offline all of yesterday...

    I've confirmed I'm running service pack 2.

the specific error i keep getting (and I don't know why) is this:
"One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it." Location is USB Root Hub (2 ports); Bluetooth & Unknown Device

I have not removed any USB device without clicking the safely remove hardware icon, so not sure what is happening. I regularly attach my EPSON printer cable and occasionally attach I-pod cable or a flash drive.

Should I run this recommended fix or do you think I should do something else?

    Thanks again!

I shutdown my Epson printer, wait a few minutes, then unplug it. As it does not show up in safely remove.

    I would try the fix.
