    Resolved [RESOLVED] Seeking vendor recommendations

We have an altered Compaq Presario 5400US Desktop PC, running Windows XP Professional, 256 MB RAM, CD-ROM. We have the speakers, keyboard, and mouse. It is part of a network with DSL, connected to another (HP Pavilion 750N) PC, which runs Windows XP Home Ed., 736 MB RAM,40 GB hard drive.

The Compaq's original hard drive was replaced with a 5 GB! So we're desperate for a new system, instead of my going through hassle of installing a larger drive, etc. We just want something basic: Windows 7 OK, word processing software, Acrobat Reader, space for camera and chat software and DVD drive are fine. We can download AVG later. Ideal price range would be $300 or less.

If anyone has recommendations, I'd appreciate it. I hope a computer running Windows 7 won't be a problem for the other Window XP computer - or will it??

I'm not a big fan of ready-built computers myself, they are all guilty of corner cutting and penny-pinching Having said that, a friend bought a Dell, and it has been a good, reliable machine.
