It all depends on which Nvidia card you have. If you would give us those details, we'll begin by showing you how to install the drivers.

Download this driver:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_190.62_whql.html
Then before you install the new one, uninstall the old one. Reboot and the computer will come up using the VGA driver provided by Windows. Open your download and install it. Should you have any problems, we'll help you fix them. Let me say, doing the install this way, I've never had a problem installing Nvidia drivers.

Personally I've never bothered to uninstall Nvidia drivers first, the new ones always seem to take care of it nicely. I wish all driver updates went as smoothly as Nvidia.

I used to do it your way too Nick, until I had a problem one day. From then on I removed the old driver first.

I use DC now too! A few years back I had problems with my XFX nVidia GeForce 7800gt. It was fine day in and day out then all of the sudden one day it wasn't working right. I first checked the Fan, it was working. I then checked for errors, none. I finally went into Safe Mode in Device Manager. I found numerous 7800gt cards installed even though the new drivers I had been loading all along said they uninstalled the previous driver versions. I uninstalled all 7800gt's in Safe Mode, Device Manager then rebooted. Once I returned to Windows I reinstalled the 7800gt drivers and still had the same problem. I finally contacted XFX about a bad card and they recommended downloading Driver Cleaner and running it before reinstalling the new drivers. Once I ran DC I reinstalled the drivers and everything has been working great ever since on that computer. From then on whenever I needed a new nVidia driver I always run DC first. I have 3 desktops with nVidia cards.

Actually, I've never used any driver cleaner before installing the new driver and never had a problem.
Now I can attest that Radeon users might have this problem. In fact, I've seen more problems with Radeon cards and their drivers, than I have ever seen with Nvidia cards and their drivers.
The point I'm trying to make is, you really don't need a driver cleaner. Just uninstall the old driver and install the new one.

I've always done it as SuperSparks does and have never had a problem (or MANY years). And as Photolady mentions a long time ago I had lots of problems with Radeon cards and drivers, which is why I switched to Nvidia. Since then I've had no problems and I've never used a Driver Cleaner.

I've always had problems with the ATI Drivers!
As I stated above, I've only had the one problem with nVidia Drivers. But since this problem I've used DC!
