Windows 7 freezes on fullscreen video

I spoke too soon. I tried watching some videos in VLC (not even fullscrenn mode)encoded in h.264 as well as an AVI and it crashed my machine both times

I did some more troubleshooting and have come to the conclusion that it is a hardware problem.

I ran the sample file that comes with Windows Media Player in fullscreen mode, and sure enough, it locked up compleltly. Same with Oblivion, I ran it at Medium settings in Windowed Mode and it locked up as well.

Any ideas?

Getting to about where I would say to heck with it and save what I wanted.
Then do a clean install. But then again, that is just what I would do.

You think a clean install would fix it? I thought it was more of a hardware issue...

Right now I am thinking it just might be a corrupted .dll and rather trying a repair install, I would go the route I listed.

Now after the clean install, should it still be there, I would investigate deeper.
Again, that is just my way.

So, if someone chimes in, please feel free to follow their sugggestion(s).

So I did so more testing, turns out that everything works splendid in Ubuntu 32bit without a hitch.

I will install either Uubntu 64 or Vista 64 and hopefully the problem should go away (hopefully its not a 64bit issue)

So from what I can see, it seems to be a 64bit issue. I just tried the Ubuntu 32 live cd and everything, and I mean everything, worked well. Streaming DivX and Flash fullscreen (same vids as tested on other OSes) Even my avi from my external hardrive was streaming fine in fullscreen mode.

So, what does this mean? Do I have to remove 4gb of RAM or can I make this work?

Back it down to 2 GB worth of ram and see what happens.

Thinking that there maybe compatability problems between ram sticks.

I should have posted earlier, but I got everything working fine under Ubuntu 64. I am not sure what the issue was, I just installed it again and it worked after installing some plugins and drivers.

Shortly after I installed Ubuntu 64, it started happening again, turns out the video card was dead (even though it was new) I got an nVidia card and it runs fine under Win 7 64bit...

Now that old card was right weird!!
