    Resolved [RESOLVED] Vista reinstall

Tried reinstalling Vista Home Premium, using a Dell OS cd, and getting a blue screen every time, after about half way through. Tried over Windows 7 in C:\ and in a clean, formatted partition without any luck. I understand that you have to have Vista installed in order to upgrade to Windows 7, this the reason for me trying to reinstall Vista.
    I would appreciate any suggestions.

Did you wipe the drive first? You can use something like Killdisk or a zero fill utility.

Did you run a memtest? I often see installation errors when the ram is bad.

Did you run a hard drive diag?

Is the machine a Dell? If "not" - you no can use a Dell DVD.

Did you write down the STOP code so you can Google it? A couple specs of dust on the dvd and or drive could cause this.

Win7 can be used as a regular full install.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

Thanks for all your suggestions, the machine is a Dell, I tried the memory test, all OK. I will try to wipe the drive clean next. I have Windows 7 running perfectly on drive C:\, it is interesting that it installed without any problems.
I did not write down the stop code, will do it if it happens again.

Make sure that the Dell DVD is clean and not scratched, it sounds as if it may be misreading the disc.

SuperSparks, You were correct, tried my Vista Backup and it installed just fine. I guess the original DVD was somehow damaged.

    Thanks for your help.
