Resolved [RESOLVED] Unwanted portable media device icon

I have a "portable media device" icon on My computer (Windows XP pro). It doesn't seem to correspond to anything. Maybe it came after I plugged in some time ago a camera that's unplugged now. How do I get rid of that icon? Thank you.

Does not work. Right-clicking only pops up this: Open, Explore, Create shortcut.

Load Windows Explorer (My Computer) (press [Winkey]E]), and browse to:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<your_username>\Desktop
    If there, try deleting it.

    If not, browse to:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop
    If there, try deleting it.

If you don't see it in either location, let us know ...

Or click on Start->Run and type: Diskmgmt.msc
Does is show up there? If so, right click and see what options you get.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

It does not show in dismmgmt.msc. That is because it is not a hard disk. And it is not in Desktop either, but in My Computer under the heading Other. It could have come after I connected a PNG (Navigon 7100) on a USB port. Now the icon is there at any time.

See if this little utility helps...

    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html

It will list every device currently and formerly connected to your USB interface. Uninstal the entry(s) that may be causing the problem.

VirtualDr email notices are not working.
    Check back regularly for responses.

In spite of your replies, for which I am thankful, I am sorry to say that we have not yet solved the problem. I have tried USBDview, but no trace of a portable media device. But this might be a little step towards it. Changing the display of My Computer to details, I've seen it says now it is a system file, that's weird, but it may show it's a problem that lies somewhere in the registry. What do you think of that ?

Do you have some burning software such as Nero or Alcohol installed which has the option of installing a virtual drive maybe?
Perhaps if you posted a screen shot it may help diagnosis.

Yes, I have both softwares, but it doesn't seem to be their icons. Is there a way to know the number assigned to each Windows XP icon? In the registry I have found an entry " Other peripherals" with an icon numbered -18. This is a screenshot, with entries in French, but no matter the language. Please click on "Visualiser/Telecharger" to see the picture.

To make a screen shot press print screen on your keyboard.Crop the image if required then upload it on a site like Imageshack or Tinypic and post the link here.

EDIT The one you posted requires password access

Do you still have the device? If so, have you tried attaching it?

You can try searching the registry and look for the name you highlighted..

Andre--Plug the camera back in. Make sure Windows "recognizes" it. On the Systems Tray (now officially Information Area) to the left of the clock, right click the little icon for Safely Remove Hardware (you may have to click the little blue ball with white arrow first). Follow the instructions. When you are told it is now safe to remove the camera, unplug it. Do you still have the icon in My Computer? (FWIW--I doubt this icon is hurting anything.)

Open regedit (Start>Run> type in regedit)
    Scroll to this key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\{49BF5420-FA7F-11cf-8011-00A0C90A8F78}
On the right pane there probably is a reference to your appareil mobile.
Rightclick and delete the reference on the right pane.

That should teach your appareil mobile!
