Your computer is infected! Popup and more...

Not sure how this happened exactly, but I have a recurring "red x" in the tool bar and it pops up saying "Your computer is infected!" etc, etc...

So I realize I have something going on and do a google search. Anything I click takes me to a completely different site than the link.

So far I have done the following:
    Run CCleaner
Installed SuperAntiSpyware - I can not even get to their website I dl'd from download.com. It seems to have installed fine, but I can not run it.
Installed Malwarebytes Anti-malware - same issue as superantispyware
Installed Hijackthis and have had the same results.

I really seem to be jammed up since I can't access a ton of sites or run software that could really help.

Please let me know if I can provide any other information!

Oh, another thing is I can't start in safe mode for some reason. It won't accept my password - work computer.

Any help is VERY much appreciated!!! THANK YOU!!!

    Try Safe Mode.

Shutdown, wait 30 seconds and then try to boot to Safe Mode and see if either will run.

    Just in case.

Vista and XP are the same.

Still can not get into Safe Mode. It won't accept my password for whatever reason. I can still log inton "non" safe mode without issue though. *edit* I have tried restarting multiple times in SM, but it will not accept my password.

I still can't run HJT or superantispyware or anti-malware. They will not open up at all.

Vista and XP are the same.
As a result of this spyware/virus, this link will not open for me.

    Copy/paste

If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

and how to get into safe mode with other OSs is what is there.

Did you try to just leave it blank ? Since it seems you do not have a password.

Train...this is my work computer and I'm using the password I use every time I log in. I have no idea why it is not taking. I am able to get to a login within Safe Mode, but it will not accept my password - which I do know is correct. I have attempted to login into Safe Mode many times with my correct network username and password, but it won't allow me to. Saying PW is incorrect (I know it's correct because I can login in normal mode no issue).

See if Stinger can find and clean enough out I guess.

I have had it work well enough a few times to where I could run other programs.

Rename hijackthis.exe to kiss_my_butt.exe, and see, if it'll run.
