I downloaded and ran the desktop hijack fix. I am able to change the colour of my desktop, but I cannot make a picture my background. The folders and icons from all of my folders are still gone. I can open them up, but the icon is not there. Although this does not seem to be a big deal, I am worried that there is still something wrong with my computer.
* Open the Control Panel (classic view).
* Click on the Ease of Access Center icon.
* Click on the Make the computer easier to see link.
* Uncheck Remove background images (where available) box.
* Click on Save.
I can navigate through my folders/files fine, but the icons (folder options with large icons) are blank. The name of the folder/file is there and I can open it normally. In addition to this, when trying to change my desktop background to any sort of picture the preview images are blank and it wont apply to my background. This is the same for my Pictures folder.
I can change the background colour. I am thinking it does not have anything to do with my desktop, but my folders??
one more thing I noticed, it is when they are large icons they do not show up, if I change the view to small, extra large or medium icons some of them show up. But, as soon as I close that folder and re-open it, the icons are gone once again.
Still unable to put a picture as my background on my desktop
nope, just blew up the images of the small icons to pixelated large icons. then when I re-opened that folder, the icons are still gone as well as the names of the files are now gone!!!
