[RESOLVED] Malwarebytes Freezing

[Drs Orders]

Can someone please help with a friends computer . Had him run SAS , then MWB , then HJT and send them to me so i can post them here . here is a reply from him .
Ran Malwarebytes. It found several other infections, ran remove.....program froze. Ran again, it found 3 in sys files (others were quarantined). No log came up. It won't let me view the log (access denied). The other locations you listed in documents and program files show unavailable.
He would also like to ditch Norton . That i can help him with . Should he ditch it first ?

Turn Windows firewall on.

Download, and install ONE of these:
- Avira free antivirus: http://www.free-av.com/en/download/index.html
- Avast! free antivirus: http://filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/
Update, run full scan.
Try Malwarebytes again.

Note:The CTFMON.EXE is among other things responsible for changing the language schema of your keyboard (e.g. for switching between the German and English keyboard layout). So in case you are using this feature you shouldn't remove or disable the CTFMON.EXE!

The only thing I have noticed that has changed unexpectedly is that I can't ping from the the laptop. It can't find the printer. The router is working (duh, I'm talking to you), the pc prints fine, the laptop just can't find it.

Your computer is clean

1. Download, and install CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds. Get "Slim" version.

Run CCleaner.

2. Turn off System Restore:

- Windows XP:
1. Click Start.
2. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.
3. Click the System Restore tab.
4. Check "Turn off System Restore".
5. Click Apply.
6. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this.
7. Click OK.
- Windows Vista:
1. Click Start.

It is the DSL modem , a actontec Modem from quest .Says Desktop sees printer , it is the laptop that can't see it .. Still want to install printer software ?

As for printer, I assume, this is a printer working for a network: desktop, and laptop, right?

Thanks Broni . I was just made aware that he has two computers connected to the modem . Will start new topic on printer after i get more information on it . He told me printer was working fine with laptop , but once he removed Norton is when the problem started . I had him go into current user and local machine and remove three traces of Norton there . I will find out where the quarantine files are suppose to be . Thanks for all your help , Much appreciated .
