[RESOLVED] Bad disk sector, DLL corrupted, repair?
When I did a CHKDSK on my hard drive, some bad sectors were found and some files that appeared to be system files were named as being affected.
I don't remember how many files were corrupted or what their names were.
Is there an easy way to get Windows XP to replace all of the system files but not delete personal data or documents or user passwords or entries that other app's put in the registry?

Are you getting any error messages?

The system is not crashing, but a few things don't work. For example there is no sound, the sound applet in the control panel says that there is no sound device but the built in sound on the motherboard just had the drivers install normally and automatically and the device manager says the sound card is working normally.
Also the "telephony" service won't start, the start and other buttons are all grayed out, and the modem is not visible to internet programs like Juno.

First of all, get your WinXP CD handy, then go to Start>Run and type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes (you don't get any report from the System File Checker, it just silently replaces and corrupt or missing system files that it finds).
