[XP] USB 2.0 Issues
Hi there,
I built a new PC around 6 months ago, and ever since I've had it I've had issues with my USB ports not running at USB 2.0 speed. I don't know how I managed to fix it, but around a month ago I remember having high-speed transfers to and from my MP3 player, but ever since I reformatted my PC, it's doing the usual popup of 'this device can perform faster', even though I have a USB 2.0 supported motherboard, I'm running XP SP2 and USB 2.0 is enabled in the BIOS.
Anyone have any ideas what I'm not doing here?
Many thanks,
sad_muso

Did you reinstall the chip set drivers for the mobo?
Do you have SP2 installed?
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

In Device Manager, look in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section, and see if the word "Enhanced" is in any of the entries. If it is then it indicates that the USB 2 drivers are installed, otherwise only USB 1.1 ia available.

My motherboard is an ASUS A8N-SLI SE.
The site to download updates for this motherboard is here
http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us
Can you guys please tell me what ones I need to download in order to get USB 2.0 working correctly?
In device manager it doesn't say "Enhanced."
thanks

This is a direct download link.I don't like posting those, but the Asus site is particularly stupid, and won't allow you to link direct to the driver page.

I presume from the lack of response that my PC is beyond repair?!

Yep. Might as well burn it to the ground...
Actually, it's still pretty early in the morning in the USA...Might hold off buring the pc up a few more hours

Does it say "Enhanced" in Device Manager now that you have reinstalled the chipset drivers?
