December 15, 2004:
HijackThis 1.99 has gone final and is available for download!
Updates:
Added O23 method: NT Services, which lists all (non-disabled, non-Microsoft) services, like Msconfig.
Added 'Action taken' info to 'More info on this item' dialog.
Integrated ADS Spy into HijackThis, 'Misc Tools' section.
Added Spybot-like intro frame for first-time users with access to common tasks.
Added /autolog commandline parameter to automatically scan, save a logfile and open it.
Fixed bug when item with IP in a Trusted Zone entry (O15) wasn't fixed.
Added 'Trusted IP ranges' to O15 method.
Updated Ignorelist, Backups list and Process manager to allow multiple selected items.
Fixed bug where a hosts file with inproper linebreaks would hang HijackThis.
NOTE: Systems infected with the 'Ms4Hd' rootkit parasite will experience crashes in HijackThis 1.99.x since this parasite deliberately crashes programs that try to detect it. For such cases, a copy of HijackThis 1.98.2 will always be available here or here.

I think not. Seems ADS Spy 1.05 is his own program..

Also fixed in this version is something that's always bugged me. In the old version, a HJT scan would turn up 4 (expected) items (don't laugh -- I'm running a nice clean Win95).
But -- if I saved the results as a HJT log, then closed the log window and ran another scan, I'd always get NINE items -- the extra five were always benign things like notations of my default searcher and start page.
In the new version, this does not happen. Four items in the first scan -- four items in subsequent scans.
Thank you Merijn!

downloding HJT
I downloaded the old HJT, unzipped, and kept it in the "c:\unzipped" folder with CSsheredder and others.
But I read that is better to open it on it's own folder, and I am not sure how to do it.
As I was getting ready to download the new version, I have uninstalled the old from add/remove.
Can I get any help as how download it on it's own folder?
thanks in advance

If your talking about a zip program winzip will give you the option of choosing another folder to unzip to. If its just an install file then in the wizard you should see the option to install somewhere else if you'd like

When you unzip Hijack this, click on Extact and in the extract box that comes up you will see C:\ and type in HJT and click OK. The folder will be created. Close WinZip. Click on Start>Run and browse to C:\HJT and select hijackthis.exe and click ok and ok and Bob's your uncle.

HJT
thank you Canada, I will follow your download instructions.
But I went to the Merjin site and they say the beta version will be ready in 2 weeks, should I wait?
..thanks..

I wouldn't. I think they have a version 1.99 that is the latest. Whatever, get what is available now because if you do get some spyware some of them won't let you download it and then its too late. You can update when the new one is ready. Besides a beta can be unstable or unreliable.
