    Remember Folder Settings

I am trying to increase the number of folders Win 2000 Pro can remember. I found on JSI this article but it is for XP so not much help, or at least I don't think it is. Anyone have any ideas?

    Lightbulb Remember more folders

This probably can be accomplished in the registry. I seem to remember an available setting to that effect in XTeq's XSsetup, which you can find here: XTeq X-Setup (it has plenty of features for Win2000 and this one undoubtedly is included).

Good idea but I just searched through it. There are items to change folder settings but nothing like increasing the amount stored, more along the lines of change the path of this default folder etc.

Hi, this was written for XP should have no problems with 2k but back up first, just to be sure. Copy and paste this into notepad then save to desktop. Call it Fviews.reg, then double click on the icon to merge. This increases the number from the default 400 to 8000.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags]

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
    "BagMRU Size"=dword:00001f40

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam]
    "BagMRU Size"=dword:00001f40

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000000

As I was looking through my Reg. there is no items inside ShellNoRoam execpt another folder and there is no folder called Shell with out something like Extension with it and I searched the reg and found no entries labeled BagMRU Size. So I dont think it would work

Those keys don't exist by default in XP either, you have to create the keys yourself.

    Outstanding It worked!!

Humorous story too. After I added the keys manually since the merge failed and after I backed up my Reg I rebooted the system and then BOOM ... NTLDR Missing Press any key to reboot...

So I throw in the 2000 Pro CD and reboot the bad boy and it loads up... interesting.

So I go back and restore the reg and reboot. WHAM... NTLDR Missing Press any key to reboot. Not good...

I go in and find the keys are still in the Reg, the restore didn't delete or replace (never used it before, I would have thought it did that) so I delete end change back everything. Reboot... just like the old Batman shows and you find yourself saying "No way can it happen again" and POW same error. Excellent. Just what I need the night before a test and slight OCD is showing. So I go to put in the CD again and I see by floppy light illuminated. HHmmmm... hey... there is a disk in there.... DOH!! I had left the disk inside when naively thought that the Reg could be backed up onto a 3.5" and I forgot to remove it, then I remembered my boot sequence... SSoooooo I took it out and rebooted and PRESTO! it booted. Outstanding. So I went back and added the keys and it remembered the settings Thanks so much for those that helped!! Hope you got a chuckle

    Talking Remember Folder Settings

I've done that. Or rather . . . once when my son was about 5, one night when I was trying to put a floppy disk in (must not have used one for a while), I kept pushing and pushing and it wouldn't go in . . . I knelt down on the floor for a look and saw that he apparently had jammed another floppy in there . . . backwards. I pried it out with tongs or something. But the wacky thing was that it had been in there for a couple of months, and the computer just kept plodding along, not complaining at all. I guess because it wasn't in a position to boot or screw anything up.

Sometimes I just don't know why floppy disks are still used!
