Deleted file
Please can anybody tell me how to get a file back that has been deleted today. It was sent to the recycle bin and the settings were to remove immediately.
I really need this file and would appreciate any help.
Thank you !!

If the bin was emptied you aren't going to get the file back. There are very expensive programs out there that can, but they are just that, very expensive. I hope it wasn't that important of a file.

If you didn't empty your recycle bin, you can right click on it and highlight "open", then find your file, and again right click, then scroll to "restore". But if you emptied the recycle bin, it's gone.

This free program may be able to recover your deleted file. The less you use your computer between when you deleted it and when you try to recover the file the better. Try and download this program to another partition or hard drive if you can to eliminate the possibility of overwriting the deleted file.

Run it from a floppy if you can. Files deleted from the recycle bin will remain intact on the hard drive until they are randomly overwritten. They are not deleted immediately but are tagged in such a way that they are no longer seen by the operating system. A program such as this will look for those specially tagged files if they still exist.

Don't get me wrong, but you come here looking for help.
Someone replies and you come back with the smartarse comment above ?
Probably not the best of ideas for getting more help ?

"smartarse comment above "
I don't see one.
It was a logical reply due to the conflicting responses.
Logical follow up question would be "Is it really gone or not?"
Apparently not.
I have recovered deleted files that were deleted bypassing the recycle bin.
As far as Windows is concerned it is unrecoverable but using a third party application it can be done.

The conflicting replies came later, and his response was smartarse as Nix put it so well. Perhaps you don't think so, and perhaps my answer was more pessimistic than the others. However, the likelihood of restoring the file after this person has obviously been using the PC is so slim that it does seem likely the file is lost. Hence my response that I hoped it wasn't that important.

Have to side with Report_2 on this one.
Mabbut was simply stating that there is a chance to get the file back, and not necessarily making the statement to the previous poster.

Let's get back to the matter at hand and see if we can recover the file.
Thanks.

mabbutt--Here is an "undelete" program that will fit on a floppy.

The reason for the suggestions that you not download to your Hard Drive is that the files you have deleted are possibly still on the drive, but now Windows thinks that space can be written over. So the more you use the hard drive, for down loads or any purpose, the more likely the lost files will be overwritten and then really gone.

Hmm other than the single response that we'll agree to disagree on.
No more responses from Mabbutt - despite lots of help.
Oh well at least you all tried.
Maybe he's just taking everyone's advice not to use the computer as he could potentially be overwriting the area that file is on.
