    VDr extremely slow

This is the fourth computer I've been on (all different providers) and want to let you know that VDr loads extremely slow on all boxes. Could this be due to the amount of advertising??? It's getting frustrating. A while back it was posted that VDr seemed to be losing it's following, this could be part of the problem.

Works fine for me. We had some issues last week but none this week that I'm aware of.

Well, I ceased complaining about it because I saw the posts that indicated that there were server problems that were already being attended to... but I can tell you that it is just as slow this week as last, much slower than it used to be, and it's a royal pain in the butt to live with.

Lord knows that maintenance, upgrades, patches, etc., have to be dealt with, but my local (mostly incompetent) ISP resolves issues faster than this. When can we expect the server problems to be resolved?

But then there's the age old question: Why aren't all members effected?

I'm at work with a whopping 397.7kbps connection and am not having any problems.

Don't know... I'm on a really fat DSL pipe here at my office, and VDr is fundamentally the only site I have this problem with. My home is in another county, on a dial-up phone line, and it's so slow from that location that it is for all practical purposes unuseable.

Maybe it has to do with the route this site takes to my general region here in the midwest? I've carefully monitored the behavior, and it doesn't all at appear to be DNS related. In fact, it APPEARS to happen only when the internal databases at VDr are being accessed. For example, the main page (www.virtualdr.com) displays fairly quickly, but trying to reply to a message, do a search for a user or a term, always results in these long delays. That behavior alone makes it appear to be an internal problem at Vdr...but I'm shooting in the dark here.

Tell me how I can help, I'll gladly provide any details that might be constructive!

I'd like to say the main page opens quickly, but it doesn't. Comcast is my provider, CoreComm is my in-laws, T1 at work, and Alltel with the grandson and everyone of them has problems opening VDr. Every other page I browse from any of these machines seems to load reasonably fast (even on the dial-up connections), but why not VDr. There have been slowdowns before, but never this bad (sometimes takes up to 30sec for main page to load).

    "Extremely slow"? No.
But as John Steven says, annoyingly slower than other websites.
And what is with the "Click Here to Expand Forum to Full Width" option?
I thought that was sorted out some months ago--that the Forum list pages would have a wide right margin but the individual thread pages would have the full width of the screen automaticially.

I too have experience a radical slow down to the opening of vdr and any thread I try to view. I am on cable and believe me this is much slower than any place else .

Yup, it's slower... has been and still is. I've stopped concerning myself with these things much... bothers me little enough.

I do not think it depends on your location either. I'm in Australia and find it a lot slower than any other sites I visit.

They're "trying a new layout," and it was pretty much exactly two months ago. Different feedback thread.

I'm glad it's not just myself having the speed issue. I've visited many sites that use lots of flash and way too much advertising and they also have speed issues. People don't have all day to wait for pages to load.

"Click Here to Expand Forum to Full Width" = Major pain in the a**

Wonder why VDr is losing its following????

The ads aren't causing this. Those ads have been there for months and the speed issue is a week old at most?

This speed issue has been going on for quite some time now - at least 2 - 3 weeks. Maybe for you it's only been a week, but trust me, it's been a lot longer than that.

Even so, it would've coincided with the ad placement which goes back roughly 3 months. The database may require maintenance, or the server. I've asked that it be looked into.
