That message could be due to malware added to the "MS File Format Converter" if you did not get it from Microsoft's web site. The message is almost certainly fake. Time for a scan with Malwarebytes.

I just had an HP laptop do that also. Only did it once though. What version of Windows 10 do you have on that laptop? The 20H2 version is what I have on the HP laptop.

The new Edge uses the same basic code setup as Chrome. If it works OK in Chrome, then it may either be the Edge add-ons or something Microsoft has done to Edge.

You may have to wait for a Windows "update" to fix this.
