I think Midknyte cleared this up.
When I disabled the "Yahoo search" and also "Yahoo toolbar and new tab" things got back in order.

Yes, for example, if I type in Chicago weather it will show Chicago%20weather.
If I type a longer search it shows %20 before each word.
I don't use the address bar, Yahoo gives a search box....
