I have XP Pro with SP2. My c:\ drive is 7gig. I have 2gig of free unpartitioned space immediatly following the System partition. How can I extend c:\ to utilize that space.
I have extended...

Look at the output you posted for /etc/conf.d/net:
iface_eth0="dchp"
That should be:
iface_eth0="dhcp"

Hmmm. It doesn't appear that your system has any problems seeing your NIC, since you do have eth0.
I could be blowing smoke here, but I thought the dlink router is sitting at IPaddress...

I've been with Microsoft since it started on the original IBM PC. I have also been a UNIX SA for 15 years. I've worked on HPUX, AIX and SUN Solaris. I have been on Debian Linux since '99. I...

Let me throw in some exceptions to what has been said. Linux is not more stable than Windows. Any instability in Windows comes from the user, not the OS. The same holds true for Linux. If you...

But, as with the big three, that Linux power comes with major costs, that puts it beyond the pockets of most motal men and ladies. -mk

You're right to a fashion.
Although the directory layout is generally the same, the underlying filesystems are different. Between the big three, Solaris, AIX and HP/UX, they use journaled Logical...

Unlike MS Windows, there is no registry to screw up. So, if you don't have the original package, you can just rm the undesirable executable. However, any other files, ie. configuration files,...

The error is because you're missing the header file /usr/include/asm/socket.h. You need to install the package linux-kernel-headers.
apt-get install linux-kernel-headers

Sorry I misunderstood your question.
For a farily good, simple explaination of the difference, try User Time VS System Time -mk

Okay, now:
cd /usr/src/linux
make menuconfig
Go through each catagory and subcatagory to see if things match you're current setup and hardware. After doing that, do:
make bzImage

April 16th, 2005, 12:42 PM
Okay, then do this:
cp /boot/config-2.4.27 /usr/src/linux/.config
So there's no manual copy mistakes, always copy and paste. Easier and faster that way.
Also, at some point, you will have...

System time is based on the time zone where the system is located, say EDT. User time is based on where the user is located, say PDT. Any UNIX/Linux system can handle both at the same time. -mk

I see you have two config files in /boot. Did the kernel 2.6.9 ever work for you? -mk

April 16th, 2005, 11:22 AM
Okay. Do this:
cd /usr/src
rm linux
I'm using the directory listing you sent. That will remove the symbolic link to linux-2.4.27. A note here. A symbolic link is similiar to a shortcut...

Okay, look at what you sent me. linux is a symbolic link to the wrong directory, I think. It's linked to linux-2.4.27. Are you trying to build kernel-source-2.6.11 or whatever is in linux-2.4.27? ...
