Don't use a common TCP port. Some firewalls can be configured to reject non-HTTP traffic on port 80 etc..

Have you tried renaming the file extension from .avi to .mpg then importing?

Which version of WinGate? After enabling the logging features required, you should be able to analyze the log file with third-party software if WinGate doesn't do it.
