Thanks for the whole conversation about power consumption because it prompted me to look at the adapter I was using. It was the wrong one so insufficient power was the cause of all my misery all...

Sorry about the attachment. It simply said Explorer.exe with ! next to it.
The error comes up on boot but this time I didn't get it. Maybe the scan and fix actually worked but I'm still curious...

What's baffling about it is why a nerd would write such an error with no explanation at all. Does anyone know what it means?

I don't get it. Here are two very similar drives, why does one need external power and the other doesn't?
-

Yes, it does have external power but the adapter should take care of that.

>Did you run diags on it?
No, because I didn't know diags could differentiate between disk problems and controler problems.
>You'd need external power for 3.5" drives.
I've never needed external...

>I would not throw the card away until I had determined if it is bad
I'm pretty sure of that because it keeps dropping the ball before the Copy operation has finished.
The only thing I have to...

I took this Toshiba HDD drive out of its enclosure and discovered a card attached (controller?).
Can I remove that and use a SATA > USB connector instead? I think there's something wrong with...

I took all the files off the disk and tried again to delete the partitions and format the whole disk as one partition but it made no difference. Disk Manager still didn't offer me any of the options...

It's a WD 4TB external HDD and it arrived with two roughly equal partitions. One partition is working fine but the other is unallocated and the right-click drop down menu has no options. How am I...

Thanks but that post is over a year old and I've long since given up and gone to WIX.

I was booting from an HDD when the SDD arrived. I imaged the HDD to the new SDD and began to boot from it. All that went flawlessly and I was quite impressed, then I noticed that Z:\, F:\ and G:\...

OK, so I'm not crazy, something is going on! I hadn't even noticed the conflicting sizes and I've no idea how H:\ came into existence or why.
Disk 4 is one that's not attached.

The missing drive was an Intel M1 Nve or similar, and the replacement is a Kingston M2

The next question is how do I get rid of a drive that isn't there? :)
Why was HDD Scan able to do a Verify test? It couldn't be reading from an image because an image doesn't have a surface!

Yeah, see above. I found nothing different, no Macrium service, no image files. Here's the results of a Verify test by HDD Scan:

That's the first thing I did, it hasn't been on the system since you joined the conversation. I just finished pedalling around in Safe Mode,...

I just took a good look around in the BIOS and I couldn't find a trace of the missing drive, so there goes my theory. I'll try Safe Mode, I agree that the issues are probably related.

I was about to create backup images when I noticed the issue. I wrote to Macrium complaining of false information but they didn't believe me. They told me to 'look again' for the drive. :)

Solved!
It was a mismatched bitrate setting. The bitrate for the MOTU Traveler is controlled by its Control Panel but there was a different global setting in Win 10 for the default bitrate. I didn't...
