Email hacked, Trying to Fix infected PC with HijackThis

To whom it may concern,

I'm Jennifer, and I posted earlier in another thread about someone hacking my aol email account (I'm on a 2006 Dell PC, Windows XP, I don't think the other software or hardware details are important, but if you need them let me know.) It was then brought to my attention that one very likely cause was malware, that someone "hacked my PC and got the password from me." Until now, I had some outdated anti-spyware programs, but I have now posted my 1st HijackThis log below (I've only done step 1 of the main suggestions and have yet to restart my computer). And below that, I will post a BitDefender log that I did yesterday.

Please let me know what steps I can take to fix these problems, while I keep going with Step 2 of the main suggestions.

Double click on downloaded .exe file, select Rootkit tab and click the Scan button.
Do NOT use the computer while GMER is running!
When scan is completed, click Save button, and save the results as gmer.log

IMPORTANT! If for some reason GMER refuses to run, try again.
If it still fails, try to UN-check "Devices" in right pane.

1. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
2. Close any open browsers.
3. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
   
   • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
   • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
   
   NOTE1. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
   NOTE 2. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always do so.

5. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
6. Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.

**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.

DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

Thank you for your detailed instructions. I have finally been able to carry all of them out! The Gmer process was lengthy, and the result was that I bould only run it in Safe Mode. So here are the GMER and Combofix logs. I will make a 2nd post with the HJT log, because all 3 logs had too many "characters" to fit in one post (also, by the way, There was no HijackThis 2.0.2 available, so I used 2.0.4)
And, please get back to me when you can about what to do next. Thank you!

I did successfully run GMER in Safe Mode, but it didn't show much of a log. I hope I didn't do something wrong! Let me know if this limited GMER info means I need to run it again.

Dear Broni,

Thanks for the ongoing tips. There were no icons for ComboFix, nor for the CFScript on my desktop. So I created shortcut icons. Perhaps I have to have a non-shortcut icon for each? I don't know how to do that. Anyway, so when I dragged the CFScript shortcut icon into Combofix, it started, but then gave me the error message "Were you trying to run CFScript? It appears to be spelled incorrectly." And after that message, Combofix disappears from the screen/ stops running. Sorry if this is a careless mistake, but I wanted to fix this before posting HJT etc.

Please let me know what I'm doing wrong!

Go Start > Run [Vista users, go Start>"Start search"]
Type in:
Combofix /Uninstall
Note the space between the "Combofix" and the "/Uninstall"
Click OK (Vista users - press Enter).
Restart computer.

1. Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.


2. Go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

1. Disable your active antivirus program.
2. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
3. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
4. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
5. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:

• Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
• Archives
• Mail databases

6. Click on My Computer under Scan.
7. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
8. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
9. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button. Then post it here.
