Operation Delta 16
Operation Delta 16 now begins continuing the installation of components in the Queen of Hearts new computer. For anyone wanting to know how to build a computer and wants to, just follow these threads. I cannot think of an area that has been covered that has left any questions unanswered. If you, the reader has one, please bring it up. Don't be bashful. Read as we continue....... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Our saga continues....our last episode left uncertainty and suspense....Will Queen_of_Hearts figure out that LED assembly? Will Train overclock so much that the system transports itself into the future? Will Nurse Sally run away with Dr. Kiljoy? And will the hospital staff care, or even notice they're gone? And what about that important urine sample Nurse Sally left on the radiator? Stay tuned.....
-
bistro left out the liquid palmalive soap that was mixed in the urine sample.

More questions to ponder:
Why is what doctors do called "practice"? That's pretty scary.
If man evolved from apes, why do we still have apes? And what are they becoming?
If someone with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself, is that a hostage situation?
What was the best thing before sliced bread?

Now that is scarey! Practice medicine. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I undid one of my little fans and gave it a little turn of 90 degrees so I could get an extra 2" out of the wires. Just so I could get the wire up into the corner good and out of the way.
I reread the Build Your Own PC tutorial. It did have that part about the twist in the floppy cable but I didn't understand that twist part when I read it. They all look twisted to me. I'm thinking about sending him my discription of that end of the cable.
Will it be ok to fold them and stick them in that space between the floppy drive and the CDROM to get them out of the way? Or do they have to remain straight ?
Eewww! Train! You never did that, did you?

bistro,
While I'm thinking about this...
Would that iSpeed have changed anything else on my dial up connection?
Before, if I was disconnected all it did was put a little rectangular box up that I clicked "Reconnect" or "cancel". Now that box asking for the password pops up, and I have to type that in, and my mail won't get itself after being disconnected, until I go back and physically push Send/Receive, then it knows it's working online.
Something's different.

Nope. ISpeed doesn't touch those settings--but sometimes they get screwy----need to go into your Dial-up properties and check. Have it save your password also. Check around for "Always dial connection", "Never dial connection", etc. and see if they changed for some reason.
Concerning those cables--floppy cable is pretty forgiving if folded (as long as it's not real kinked). That hd ATA cable though tends to get persnickety. it can be somewhat folded, but make sure it's not creased--those wires inside are quite small and sensitive.
-
Ok I'll check those settings.
The ATA cable will be right in front of where it plugs in to so it can be kinda looped back and forth wothout folding or creasing. The other two will fit in that little space pretty good and get out of the way. It looks a lot nicer in there without those cables. They make it look messy.

Morning All, Hmmmm. Diabolical minds at work. QoH, a practice is where one continually tries to get better at what they do - hence a doctor's practice. Seems like lately you can read and hear more about practices.
Train, not very good at hacking. All I heard this morning - "....not on the radiator".
Bistro, she's not going to cut the cables to make it look neater is she? A neatnick, we had to have a neatnick. Meanwhile, somewhere back in Texas the gobble of a smart turkey is heard. One of these days..... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
The detailed installation computer explanations continue to be excellent. Later. Be well. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

I took my IDE cables and did the cutting "mod' on them--works pretty good. Some intrepid folks have tried the same trick with the ATA cables with some success; but I wouldn't recommend it. If you get it wrong (and it's very easy to do so), you're just going to end up with an expensive tangle of usueless cut-up cables. I'll be borrowing a friend's digital camera this week and take some shots of my system to show you some "mods" you can experiment with. Just a recommendation--not what you should do. Might even take a shot of myself and reveal what the mysterious bistro looks like. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
BTW: Still experimenting with some settings for the Prophet II card. Found that when I let Windows handle the vcache, the scores went up consistently....interesting. vv and a few others have always recommended setting the min and max vcache to 25% of RAM. The other side of the house recommends leaving it alone and let Windows (98) take care of it. Tested both several times and like I said, it appears that when the vcache is left to 98, the vid does much better. The mystery continues....
(I'm talkin' about vcache here now...not the swap file).

I have practiced without the chip. It seems like it'll be ok. Opened and closed several times. It has a DIAMOND on top....how lovely.
I'm fixin to get after it.
Wish me luck..... http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/smilies/cwm31.gif

https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
It has a tiny plug and another one in the bag to make it big with one of those infinity things on the end of that. Use the tiny on FAN1 ?
If I do that it will drape over the top of the ORB. Will it get too hot for it to do that ?
I'm NOT turning it around!
-
That would be OK as long as it doesn't get too close to the fan--are you able to orient the orb the other way so the wire is a little closer? The plug on that wire should be a 3-pin---compare with the one at CPU FAN 1--if the same, go for it. Otherwise, use the adapter.
Now...I'd like to stick around for all this, but my brother just called. He needs me to fly out immediately to South Dakota and help drive the gerbil herd to New Mexico...will be out of the net for a couple of months starting now....see ya' and....Good Luck, QoH.
REMEMBER THE BB-SIZE DAB OF THERMAL PASTE!
[This message has been edited by bistro (edited 02-05-2001).]

yeah yeah yeah !
I remembered the thermal paste. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
STAY ! PLEASE!
It's already on and I am not going to take it back off now. Doesn't get in the way of the fan. Just over the top of the gold part.
Now. I will redo all my wires, which I have labeled nicely, then put the cards in ? And the RAM?
-
Go for it. How much RAM you got? Take a close look at the stick, then look at the DIMM slot it goes into. See that notch in the stick? match it up with the pattern in the Dimm slot; insert it using the guides on either side, push gently down until the two clips "snap" in place--you may have to push on the clips slightly to make them snap into the stick. Key word here is "gentle" with everything.
-
Only 128MB came so far. Another one on it's way. So the first slot? DIMM1
-
-
OK Wiring done. Video card in. Sound Card in
or should I leave that out for now?
The Cyclone right in front of the Video Card or skip a slot ? It just hangs there. No fins like the cards.
-
RAM just snapped right in. Closed the clips.
-
Roger, QoH.....brrrzzztttt....acknowlege "Clips are closed"....you are "Green" for go ahead....brrzzzzzzt....make sure youbrzzzzggtt...brzzzzzztttt...or you could die...brzzzzt...

https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ OK we may have a problem.
I do not see where this keyboard will plug in. May need some sort of adapter. And this on here is a compaq so I doubt it would work.
-
bisssssssstro?
I'm going to go see about this adapter or a new keyboard. Be back after while.
I need a break after all this work https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
And when I get back if you're still not here....I'm flying to Washington D.C. and I'll hunt you down....I'd recognise your typing anywhere.
...you'd better start running !
-
https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ OK....what does the plug on the keyboard look like? Round, flat? It may need that adapter (didn't you already say that?). Depends on the keyboard---best thing to do is take your keyboard and mouse down to the shop and get some help. Sorry--but I assumed both your keyboard and mouse would be PS2. Didn't anticipate this. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
EDIT: Does the mouse plug fit? If not, like I said, you'll need an adapter for that too. Tell the guy you need both to convert them to PS 2.
