Could not change over 'til now on my computer. I see where I could send messages and the threads were tabulating but I saw nothing to read at work. Explain that one.
Mosaic, I like to change over just as we start 4. Think it would be better in 3?
Heck no I don't care about bumpin' Bistro but I knew I was missing the haps going on. It gets kinda frustrating. You guys have all the fun. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Train, I did check out a few component prices and there is still a downward pressure. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
QoH, Jus' ketchin' up on the posts I noticed your excitment jumping right off the screen. It'll be alright we'll make it. I promise we will. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Case and ps $85
Motherboard $150
800mhz Duron $90 nice drop so moved up to here. And if later I wish to upgrade to a T'bird 1Gig I can, as the Mother board allows it.
Now if they get the bus up to 500 and harddisk up there all will be well.

Train, I'm going back to Delta 11 to check out your Memory link. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
bistro, I looked at the back of the case in the picture to see how many of those thumb screws it'll need. It looks like only two on the back... is that the only place those go ? You think there might be enough in the package if screws I'm getting.
EDIT:
Nevemind. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I just reread Delta 11 and I need the package of 8 base screws. Not the assorted.
Motherboard and Case screw set:
Screw set for motherboards, drives, and cases. Including four bronze base screws, six case screws, six floppy drive screws, and six hard drive screws, and three 2-pin jumper terminators. Actual quantities may vary. Assorted in individual plastic bags.

Hi all! Just popping in and then back out to tell you no transfer today---spending the afternoon with chores and modifying the case a little bit. Now don't panic... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ The case is great as is--just some personal touches, that's all. BTW, I was totally wrong about the need for an extra slide bracket for the 5.25 bay--it's screw in. Not sure why they designed it that way; if ya'll ordered the extra bracket on my account, I'm sorry--wasn't paying enough attention. Not to minimize, but perhaps an "extra" won't hurt anyway--those things get bent up from time to time, and those brackets appear to be for this case only (not a generic slide bracket).
Also, a word of "warning": When taking off the front panel, go slow. You unsnap the left snaps from the inside of the case, then slooooooowly open it like a door--the right snaps will pop out on their own--don't go too fast or you could break one or both of the right snaps. (You really won't need to remove the front panel much after you get all your stuff inside anyway).
Anyhoo, I'll "check in" tonight and say howdy.
Later.

https://discussions.virtualdr.com/Well, not only do you owe me 2 bucks bistro, you are in really big trouble Mister.
You forgot to remind me to remind you to remind me to use the drop down arrow when ordering and change that little box to 4 pin to power supply instead of the default 3 pin to Motherboard.
It occured to me after re-reading Delta 11 and I frantically looked at my email confirmation. Sure enough, I had ordered the 3 pin to Motherboard. I called them. They were in the process of packing my order ! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
They changed both fans to 4 pin. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I could have also cancelled the slide bracket, but I decided I kinda like your idea of having the extra.....even if you were covering your butt. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Ok...finished all the "modding". Just added some soundproofing, a bay cooler to add a little more air flow, and a small fan in the front where the hard drives are located. Ready to pull the old system apart and put it in the new case. Probably do it tonight.
Think I'll wait 'til ya'll have your cases right in front of you before I point out more things--that way you don't have to imagine it; you'll see it. Was just checking out some more sights concerning the case and saw a couple more suggestions to use either cardboard washers or very thin washers between your mobo and the "dimples" where your particular mobo doesn't have a corresponding mounting hole. You actually don't need them for the mounting holes themselves. Now, the case comes with a bag of screws that also includes 1 (only 1) "canoe clip"--just a tiny black plastic cap that pushes into a dimple--again, designed to keep whatever part of your mobo that doesn't have a corresponding hole from coming in contact with the side of the case. Wel...that little bugger really doesn't like to cooperate--tried it. Think I'll just glue a thin plastic washer on whatever dimples fall into that category.
Anyway, we'll see tonight. Will post tomorrow.

What ?! You think you get to have sound proofing and I don't ? hummmp! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Tell us what you did to accomplish that ? Is it like a foam board... or spray in ?
I noticed some buttons of some sort on the Motherboard Accessories (Plastic motherboard stand-off (also called clip-on feet, support, spacer, and studs) that are used to support some brands of motherboards. One set of six in three different styles ) and clicked on those, just to get a better view and they kinda look like the buttons that hold the door panel on a car door. Push in and expand or have little teeth.
I had read in one thread on 98 a few weeks ago, Mosaic, about somebody having a concern about their mother board possibly touching the case. I just "filed" it in this brain, but I am so glad you mentioned that. Is is a grounding thing? Like only when you are plugged in, or you don't want it to ever touch like the magnetism deal?
-
You do not want it to touch, If it does you will have a stinking mess but if it calls for a ground, that is different. I have seen and smelled soe burned board. Would pass on anymore, gladly.
Have my route all maped and printed out. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

I am here - finally. I really don't want to talk about this week, then Her Highness has incredibly good luck with her order including bragging, jumping, had the roofers over I don't know how many times i understand; she Na Na Boo Boo's me cause I can get posts to VirDr during the day, but get nothing back, so I'm really ticked on top of everything else and I won't get any better until I get a chicken recipe and probably a copy of her case order. I'm really beginning to wonder about this Twinkie business. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ and a raspberry on top of that.
How's everybody else? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ There's not a doubt in my mind about how the QoH is feeling.
Bet you never thought you'd be doing sumpin' like this, did ya. I sure didn't.

Night Train.
-
Well,...there it is, folks. 2 hrs., 50 minutes (that's with a 15 minute coffee break https://discussions.virtualdr.com/). Completely cannibalized the old, and the new is up and running. I have to say...this case was well engineered. The slide rails worked perfectly. No need for "washers" on the mobo mount--everything matched with no contact with the extra dimples. BTW, there is a mobo grounding screw included with the case (it's a regular mobo screw)--if your mobo has that opening, use it; otherwise don't. You screw it in before you mount the mobo--I had almost forgot about it.
Tested the CPU and case temp.--not sure without further testing, but looks like a drop of about 5-8C. Not bad.
Anyhoo, it's late--time for bed. Nite all.

You should be just about be back to room temperature now, right? That is a nice temperature drop, should start snowing in the case before long. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ The advantages of a larger case. No bloody knuckles, shortend assembly time, and you can see what you are doing.

Excellent morning ! http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/s/net7/coolbrows.gif I been busy this morning guys.
I stopped by and visited with my friend who builds computers and told him what I was doing and getting. He was very impressed with our choices https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Now go ahead and kick me in the butt. Listen to this.... He uses the S500 when he builds and could have gotten me one just like I ordered with the 300W PS for 56.00 no freight ! Oh well... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Oh ! I got to see "the case" ! He opened it up and showed me how the drives slide. Says he swears by the S500. (Also impressed with the Motherboard we picked.)
He also showed me how the processor goes on the Motherboard where the little lever is and all that.
He also has or can get 128MB RAM for 70.00. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
We discussed him getting my other componants for me and he said he'd be tickeled to death ....so that is what I shall do. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

http://www.zing.com/picture/p33b261d...8.jpg.orig.jpg
Oh well.... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Sounds like you hit a winner there,QOH. Always good to have someone right there to help. Take full advantage of it. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ The case is a beaut. I especially like the rolled edges inside--my hands appreciate it. (Still have to be careful---a few sharp edges still there). If ya'll want or need it, as soon as you get the cases, I'll type up a "tour" and throw in a few pointers. One thing I noticed last night was that it wouldn't allow me to slide the two CD-ROMs in all the way on the top two bays--had some indentations that prevented that--not sure why they designed it that way. Oh well..just bent them inwards a bit and had no more trouble. The slide rails worked great--perfect alignment. Was also able to drop My ZIP drive from a large bay into the second 3.5--nice.
https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Yes, QOH--that included removal time also. Believe me, once you do it once, the next time will be easier and faster--you'll be intimately familiar with how it all goes together.

https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Surrrrre.
So what about the sound proofing....or is that a trade secret ?
-
Trade Secret.....
No, not really.... Just an experiment. Took a few foam monitor mats--about 1/4 inch thick--and some spray adhesive and lined the sides and top. Took some ventilator filter material (designed for asthmatics) and placed it on the inside over those side air vents to help keep the dust out, but still allow air flow. Had to model the foam matting just so, or else you couldn't close the sides properly. Seems to be fairly quiet--quieter than the old one. The adhesive is good for 110 degrees--that case won't get that hot! Checked the rear exhaust fan after running the system for over an hour--feels like air conditioning--very, very cool. Getting absolutely excellent air flow/cooling as advertised in one of the articles. Think I'll write InWin about it.
Gotta run on an errrand--will check back later.
