Multiple Downloads
I am running XP and am limited to two simultaneous downloads. If I have two downloads coming in, I cannot start another. If I try to start a third, I do not get any error message, it's just that nothing happens. In fact, I cannot open a jpg image or stream a song while two downloads are running. As soon as one of the downloads is complete, I can begin another one. I have DSL and the bandwidth to support more downloads. I have another computer running win98 that will support as many downloads as I wish.
Does anyone have an answer?

Thanks

rwinegar, if you are using IE6, give this a shot:
This is to increase the the number of max downloads to 10.
1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
2. Locate the following key in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
3. On the Edit menu, click Add Value , and then add the following registry values:
"MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=Dword:0000000a
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=Dword:0000000a
4. Quit Registry Editor.
Good Luck https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Yes, I am using IE6.
I notice that parts of each value are enclosed in quotation marks. Should the quotation marks be included in the value?
-
Hi rwinegar, don't include the quotes... and yes that should do what u wan't https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Heres a link i found with more details http://www.the-scream.co.uk/html/res...reg_tweak.html

HHHMMM! This is strange. I found this http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q282402 It is same as corner pocket's fix, but it shows quotation marks. I think maybe they should be included.
-
rwinegar, I used the information just as you see it and have no probs. On the other hand no quotes may work as well, but I am at work and don't have the abiltiy to test that. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Hi, i just looked in my registry and it allready has the keys in there without the quotes as like this screenshot from my above link
http://www.the-scream.co.uk/img/ie_r...ak/regdir2.gif
alltho i don't think it something i've tried changing before as i use getright for d'loads over a couple of MB's...
i just had a look to attempt to change it and my current value data is just "5", so i guess i just replace this with "0000000a", i'll try it now and see if it works... BRB...

If I get time I will try it tonight when I get home. I'll post back tomorrow with results.
Thanks everyone.

LotusAstra, try pulling the line over so that the entire string shows. I do not think what you are looking at is the same as what is posted on M/S data base.
-
yup, that worked for me, no longer the limit of 2 downloads, but i couldn't seem to quite get it to download 10 at a time... managed around 6 i think...
Hope that helps https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Just so not to confuse you, when i said these keys were allready there, i have no idea how they got there, cuz i just checked my other install of XP and the keys needed to be created manually...

after checking both my PC's this tweak has got me confused, i'm at a loss with this now, i'm trying to work this out at present...
i did find this a long time ago and had it on my drive
------------------------------------------
Windows will limit connections to a single HTTP 1.0 server to four simultaneous connections.
Connections to a single HTTP 1.1 server will be limited to two simultaneous connections. The
HTTP 1.1 specification (RFC2068) mandates the two connection limit while the four connection
limit for HTTP 1.0 is a self-imposed restriction which coincides with the standard used by a
number of popular Web browsers.
Open your registry and find the key below.
Create two new values, or modify the existing values, called 'MaxConnectionsPerServer' and
'MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server'. Change the values to equal the number of simultaneous requests
allowed to a single HTTP server, the default values are 2 and 4 respectively.
Restart Windows for the change to take effect.
Note: By changing these settings you are causing Windows to break the HTTP protocol
specification for any Internet applications running on your machine.
(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
MaxConnectionsPerServer REG_DWORD 0x00000005 (5)
MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server REG_DWORD 0x00000005 (5)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\...
Settings
Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Internet Settings]
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: Number of Simultaneous Connections
--------------------------------------------
from that i gather that "5" is what they want me to add to the DWORD value... but obviously this value depends how many connections you require, i'll try n suss this out.

Sorry for the confusion, Hope u got it going, Regards https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

https://discussions.virtualdr.com/Alright LotusAstra https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Thanks for taking the time to "run with it" https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
rwinegar,
looks like you can run without the quotes as LotusAstra just pointed out, as I pointed out my machine gave no hassle with the quotes, but all machines have minds of their own...experiment with it.. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

No problem there CornerPocket, i did notice when its exported from the registry (see below paste) it has the quotes in it same as your 1st post, but they don't show from inside REGEDIT on mine, which is normal i guess, i'm not questioning it, as u say "all machines have minds of their own" https://discussions.virtualdr.com/.
rwinegar incase u haven't done it yet or any else that wants this tweak you can do the following to make it quicker and you can save it for future quick use.....
Caution: The following has been tested by myself with XP only. Usual registry precautions apply, i'm not responsible if the PC blows up, etc, etc. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Create a file called "MaxConnections10.reg" with notepad
and paste the following into it from inbetween the stars(*)
********************************
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:0000000a
"MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=dword:0000000a
********************************
Import the created *.REG file into the registry, restart and its done!
Hopefully that'll make it a little quicker,
Regards https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Tried all your tricks guys. It didn't work. Sorry. In fact when I got in the registry, it was not even possible to add the value you suggested. I was, however, successful in editing the registry and obtaining additional downloads. As I type this I am downloading 4 files from the same server. Go here to see how I did it. http://www.computing.net/windowsxp/w...rum/20815.html
Thanks for all your suggestions. I really appreciate your help.

Hi, both methods do work, the difference is that 0000000a is the HEX value... and 10 is the DECIMAL value... by entering a HEX value of 0000000a it will equal the DECIMAL value of 10 and do same thing!
I think I know what u mean when u say "it was not even possible to add the value you suggested", i think u mean when u enter the value of "0000000a" in as HEX, click OK then check it after, its not the same it just says "a"...
This is nothing to worry about as if u check the DECIMAL vales it will say 10 still... it just chops all the zeros off the "0000000a" so u could just put in "a" instead of "0000000a" for the HEX...
i seems the "0000000a" value is more related to importing it rather than doing it manually.
just thought i'd share my findings and explain incase u're the curious type... Doesn't matter how you do it just as long as end results are the same, which they were, glad you're happy anycase https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
