Why is my onedrive popup screen blank when I click on the onedrive icon from windows 10 settings?
Where is the setting you're talking about?
Do you have OneDrive all setup and have been using it?
I generally go to my browser homepage which MSN.com and login to OneDrive from there.
I never used it. I signed up for the free Microsoft ESU program to continue receiving windows 10 security updates for a year. I went there by clicking the onedrive icon in windows settings. I just clicked the icon again now and the screen isn't blank anymore. Not sure why it was blank earlier after trying numerous times.
I never used onedrive before. I am using it now to get the free windows 10 updates (ESU) for a year. I want to sync the minimum required to continue receiving those win 10 updates. How do I check to see which settings is synced to my onedrive?
OneDrive is normally set to sync ALL of the Microsoft standard folders to OneDrive. Note that in some cases, it may make a copy of the folders on your hard drive, but usually, it MOVES the folders to Microsoft's OneDrive hard drive, leaving you with NO files and NO backup. You will want to make sure that you have a backup on a different drive or a different folder set on YOUR hard drive (C:\Users\{UserName}\Backup\Documents or Pictures or Videos, etc.), since there is no way to know what Microsoft might decide to do with your files.
To avoid this issue, I stopped using the Microsoft standard user file folders for Documents, Pictures, etc.
Jdc2000, I am not the most tech savvy. You have me concerned after reading your reply. I do not want any of my personal files to sync to onedrive. I read where you only need to sync a few pc settings to get the windows ESU for the year. Where do I check to see what is synced and what changed I need to make to only sync pc settings?
I just read the following below pertaining to the ESU paid version. I thought you just make a $30 payment. Starting tomorrow my laptop will not be getting windows updates until I get all this sorted out. I don't even know what must be done.
Microsoft is telling you that you must obtain cloud services, like Microsoft 365 or Azure, through a third-party company called a Cloud Solution Provider (CSP). The CSP acts as an intermediary, handling licensing, billing, and support for you, providing a more integrated and flexible service than buying directly from Microsoft. You are required to work with a CSP to get certain products and services because this model is Microsoft's standard for selling cloud products to many customers
What you can do is sync a few files that do not contain any useful personal information to OneDrive and make sure that your real personal files are not part of the sync. That should work.

Jdc2000, thanks for the reply and those links. I am not the most tech savvy. I am getting confused as I read the links. I am starting to panic. I never used onedrive and never had a Microsoft account linked within windows. I don't want any of my personal files to be synced or sent over to onedrive. What settings do I need to change to not have this occur and only want a few pc settings to by synced. I don't even know if Microsoft sets a minimum limit of folders/files that needs to be synced to onedrive to qualify for the ESU.
According to this link from Microsoft, OneDrive should NOT be required to get USE updates.

Hi jdc2000. Sorry for the delay in replying. I had a family issue to take care of. I appreciate the help. Thanks for those links. I went with the free ESU option. What I did was moved all my flies on my laptop to an external SSD. I not sure what I clicked on, but I have been receiving the free updates and it says that I am enrolled to get ESU. I am not sure if I am linked to onedrive or not. In your link, it says go to settings/Accounts/sync your settings. Where is sync your settings in accounts?
Also, can you tell me what I need to click to make sure my onedrive is not enabled?
I mentioned in a previous post that many times after I go to settings and click the onderive icon at top right that the onedrive pop-up window is blank. I attached a screenshot showing the blank pop-up window. What is causing this issue?Attachment 15974
In "Settings" is a search option.... Search for -> sync your settings
The first thing to check is whether OneDrive is actually running. If it is, there should be a blue "cloud" icon in the Notification Area / System Tray. If you see that, then OneDrive is running. You can also check Task Manager to see if it shows there also.
If it is running, then the next step is to make sure that you have copies of any files or folders / subfolders that OneDrive has. Once you have made triple sure that you have copied ALL files / folders from OneDrive to a backup folder like C:\Backup\OneDrive\ then you can stop the Sync, unlink your user account from OneDrive, and after that, you can uninstall OneDrive.

Jdc2000, I must be logged in because the icon in the systray has a red x over it. When I click it, at top it says sync issues with 8 files listed all with red X's next to them. When I click settings, the last option listed says pause syncing with an option to quit onedrive. If I log out of onedrive, what settings do I need to sync to continue receiving ESU? In accounts/windows backup settings, "remember my apps" is turned off and "remember my preferences" is turned off. Which settings is required?
Update: Microsoft has another update error that may show an incorrect "no support" message:

You should need OneDrive to get updates, according to the links I listed in Post #10. You can close/exit OneDrive each time you boot, and see if you get updates this month. If you do, then OneDrive should not be needed and you can remove it after making sure that it does not have the only copy of any of your files.
I unlinked onedrive from windows 10 the other day, so I don't have to log out each time I boot up. It shows that I am still enrolled in ESU.
Excellent. Thanks for the update.
No problem. Thanks for the help, JDC2000.
