Regarding Win 10: Is Microsoft Now Dragging It's Feet ?

I decided to go for Windows10 but did not want to contaminate my present OS of win7, so I removed the HD of same, reformatted another HD [500gb] & installed win7, activated it & proceeded to install win10. I DL'ed the media creation tool & started the process. All seems to go well till it gets to the part of getting updates. There it shows "checking for updates" & stalls. I left it at this state over night & today, it is still "checking for updates" What the sam-hill is going wrong here ? Is there something else I need to do ??

Tell it NOT to get the updates at that time, and by the time all is installed they will be gotten and installed.
I used the media creation tool, made the dvd and like you hit that same snag. Next try I said no and that has worked 5 times so far.

I just did a "quit" & it says : Setup is cleaning up before it closes. Do I just do nothing from now on ? BTW, thanks Train for replying...

Next time when you hit that update garage, select NO and it should install correctly.

It appears that that may have done the trick. A complete different install window, thanks ..............

Actually what really did the trick, was to go to Microsoft's website, download the media tool meant for either a USB install or cd. Then do the install via the USB hub rather than trying to do the install from the desktop as I was trying to do. I should have known because I did a similar install a month ago that way. Just plumb forgot. Oh well, I'll just blame it on old age..........................

Used the USB myself and the dvd. That way I have a backup just in case.

Hey Train; I am having a bit of diffaculty getting win10 to recognize my network system. It say that I can join a home group, just enter the password. It also says that I can get the pw from whoever setup the home group. That's has never been setup, if so there was never a pw involved. How do I handle that situation ?

You did not say what network resources or devices you were trying to connect to (computers, printers, etc.), but the link below might work. No guarantees however.

Sorry about that. I am trying to be able to transfer files etc from one pc to the other. I did shut down all but one pc, then created a new network password. The I go to another pc & can see the others but of course, it asks for a user name & PW. The PW will go ok (i hope) but I cannot seem to satify the "user name" what name would it be referring to: the one i created the PW on or the one that is asking for the same ? Thanks for the help ....

If you try to connect to another computer on your network, and are asked for a user name and password, you need to supply a user name and password from a user account that exists (and is not disabled) on the computer you want to connect to.

And there is no way of bypassing it either.

This is really a tough one to crack. No matter I do it, it will not accept whatever; user or password... I even made sure that the credential manager in each pc was setup properly. I had to shut down all units & set up the credential manager in the one active pc. If any others were running, part of the credential manager of the second unit was shown in the first. I have also set up each as a home group. Also setup the network as "MYNETWRK" . All to no avail.................

Do you have the same user name and password on all of the computers?

I use the same password on all but each has its own user name such as: Razor-1 , Razor-3-PC and such.

I am using the name of the owner of the pc's when I installed the OS which is me of course as the user names ....

Try setting up a user with the same user name and password on all computers. Make sure that you have a folder owned by that user set as shared. Make sure that all computers are in the same Workgroup.

Here is another obstacle I am faced with. As I struggle for info on how to resolve this dilemma, I now find that all PC's have to have this:
"Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" .Mine all have IPv4 connectivity . The other says no network access. Kinda stumped as what needs to been done ....

By the share folder/ hdd name.

Train; I'm kinda dense here. Not sure in how to interpret your Examples. The way I usually access other computers is to click on a Network Icon that I place on my desktop. Clicking on it shows all the computers on my network, including printers etc. In the past using win7 & XP, I would click on one of the PC's & open any folder on that PC that was in the shared mode & have full access. Now when I try to do the same with win10, I get the window to enter network credentials. If I am on say : Razor-1 trying to connect to Razor-3. The window does state to: "Enter your credentials to connect to:Razor-3. The greyed out portion below that has the name; Razor-1 & a spot to enter the password. No workee... Can you give me a little better description on how to exactly satisfy that stupid security window? Thanks for your time..

Those are example of folders I share, there names so I know what computer and what folder I am looking at.
Learned to do that when I started networking XP.
Be SURE to go in and share the folders you want in each computer.

The path to each computer would be different for the same folder names.

Examples:

\\RazorPC1\Users\Razor\Documents
\\RazorPC2\Users\Razor\Documents
\\RazorPC3\Users\Razor\Documents

VIOLA ! I finally got them all coordinated. I did not have to change any user names. I first shut down all but one. I reset it to homegroups, entered a new password, then fired up the others & did the same. Now everything is shared among them.. Have a great weekend.............
