Trying to install/uninstall AnyMeeting

I have been using AnyMeeting for over 4 years now and since about 18 months they developed an app that has to be installed on my computer, so i can use their platform as a presenter of online meetings.

Last year, they released a new app version but i was never able to install it. Their tech support tried to get me to do all kinds of tests, but no go. They even used TeamViewer to try to solve the problem, but they could not.

A few months after, another version was released and that one installed properly and i was happy.

This month, they released yet another version, and again, i can't install it. I keep getting a message that "There is a problem with this Window installer program". I tried many things, unsuccessfully:

- i tried uninstalling through Add/Remove program: i get a message that there is a problem with this Windows installer program.
- the tech support asked me to delete the folders where the app was previously installed (in AppData and LocalAppData)
- i tried reinstalling the new version: no go
- i tried uninstalling it through RevoUninstaller (which was suggested here, last year), and i also get the same error message

So, my question here is: where can i get a "fresh copy" of the "windows installer program"?
I experience the exact same issue on my laptop where i also wanted to install/uninstall AnyMeeting, so it is not something like a conflict with something else on my computer since it is repeated on the other too.

I am in touch with their tech support, but i am not sure how helpful they are. They replied to me:
"The error in question is typically caused by not having the correct access to modify the <User>\Appdata\Roaming folder. That is the Windows default install location and AnyMeeting installs to that folder." but i don't know if there is a way to change that access or permission or whatever.

Could you either make sense of this or help me get around this issue (short of dumping this platform)?

Not sure if i am looking in the wrong place but this seems to be the installer for Windows Server 2003 and Windows xp, while i am using Windows 7.

Doing some more digging, i found a suggestion to scan for corrupt files. I did, and got a response that "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations." (This means that I do not have any missing or corrupted system files).

I almost wish i had some issues, but now the issue is that no issue is found while i still experience issues!

The Windows Installer 5.0 is part of the Windows Server 2012, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows 7. There is no redistributable for Windows Installer 5.0.

I do prefer the cmd line though.

So type in cmd to get the command prompt and then chkdsk /f /r in it?
Is that going to be a looooooong process? I am mostly wondering if i can run that while i keep working at the computer or if i should wait to set it overnight?

It does take a while, but you will not be able to use the computer while it is running.

You click Y and then enter , now reboot and you will see the chkdsk run when it starts to boot up.

Reboot and try to uninstall.

Completed scan overnight (so i didn't see the result), it rebooted itself.
I tried the uninstall, and i still get the exact same thing. No go. :(

I did when i noticed that my font was the wrong size. I rolled back from before i tried installing/uninstalling the program and it didn't help.

I'll look into that. But what file should i take ownership of? I can't UNINSTALL the program and i get a message that it is a window uninstaller that is problematic.

When i tried using RevoUninstaller, i saw it go in the registry, i thought it fixed that issue by removing any "leftover".

Per your initial post, you would take ownership of the <User>\Appdata\Roaming folder.

Revo might have missed some of the registry entries also. It couldn;t hurt to try a search for AnyMeeting entries.

Not exactly sure what i am doing. I am the only user so taking ownership, i tried as an administrator.
Then, i tried to remove the program that shows, still in the Add/Remove program, but i still get the same error.

What happens when you try to install the new version? If you get an error, post a screen capture of it.

If the program is still showing up as installed, then there must still be files and registry entries remaining. You may have to manually remove those to get the installer to work again. Also, the error message that the installer is getting indicates that the file:
C:\Users\Users\AppData\Local\Temp\IXPOOO.TM~\CNW_Plugin_Setup.msi
cannot be found. That might be helpful to the AnyMeeting support personnel.

Yes, it is a similar issue than last year (although the error message is slightly different). The only way it was fixed is when they had another version of the app which was able to get installed over the "misbehaving" one. Until that point, i could not use it on my computer, while it was still installed on my laptop, however, this time, i have the same issue on the laptop so i just can't use their platform.

I'll forward the screencast to them. Hopefully it will help.
I'll update this thread if i get a solution so others might benefit too.

C:\Users\Users\AppData\Local\Temp\IXPOOO.TM~\CNW_Plugin_Setup.msi
is in a temp folder, cleaning it out should not cause any problems.

It couldn't hurt to try, but I am betting you will get the error you had in last year's thread.

Well, it turned the tech support had to do a remote session (on BOTH my computers as the problem was the same). I was not able to follow everything they did, but they used the Fix it program. When i asked what was the issue, i was told there was an issue with the roaming folder, as if my computers didn't want anything installed in there. I don't know what it means, but i was told it was rare, and even rarer to happen to BOTH my computers.

In any case, they got it fixed and it is now working fine on both computers.

Thanks for the update. As I suspected, they probably performed a "Take Ownership" process on the Roaming folder, as that is what the error message was indicating as the likely cause.

Well, it turned out their tech support staff installed AnyMeeting correctly on both the laptop and the desktop. It went well until i had to reboot both computers. From that point, the AnyMeeting app was nowhere to be found. I still can't install it, even though it does not show as installed in the Add/Remove program. It is not in the Start programs, it is nowhere.

I contacted them and they could not figure out why it just vanished (from both computers too!). They had me run a scan of the computer and suspected an anti-virus was affecting AnyMeeting app, but i don't have Norton, ESET or such. I only have Windows Security Essential. But from the scan log they saw i had Spybot (probably installed from a recommendation here). I didn't have it set up for live protection but still tried to remove it. It seemed to work but the AnyMeeting is still not installing.

They suggested i used REVO to uninstall Spybot completely, but REVO has a trial period that i have expired. Do you know of anything else i could use to do as REVO would have done?

Are you still getting the same error message as before? If so, it would indicate that you still don't have permission to access the folder that AnyMeeting needs.

I still have the same error about the Windows Installer.

Strangely, someone DID install it and i was able to use it but it just vanished after a reboot. So where would it be? I have no idea.

I found that it is installing ok on another user that has admin privileges, but then, i would have to reinstall programs on that user account. Is there a way to change my current user account to an admin one? Maybe that would solve it?

If the user account you are using is NOT an Administrator account, that could be why you can't install AnyMeeting. Below is a link with info on how to change this. You can change it back later once you get the software installed. Note: If, during the Install process, you are asked it you want to install this software for All Users, you should probably say Yes.

Well, i was wrong. It turns out that both accounts were administrator. So the current one i am using can't install the app, but the other can.

Install the program using the other account, but install it so that All Users can run the program.

It is already installed on the other account. I am worried about uninstalling it and not being able to re-install it.
I am also not sure if it did ask me to install for all users. If it does not ask, how do i get it to install for all?

If it is already installed on the other account, then you will need to fix the permissions on the problem accounts folder as previously mentioned to get it to work there.

When i tried "fixing permissions", it didn't work/help, which is why i ended up with their tech support.

You could try giving the problem account permissions while loggen in to the account that is working.

What happened when you tried before? Post a screen capture of what the permissions for that folder look like now.

I get the same error message about the installer. Nothing has changed apparently.

I am not 100% sure i did it correctly but it SEEMS ok based on the tutorial.

You got several error messages when attempting to install/uninstall/reinstall AnyMeeting in that video. Which one is still holding you up? Is it the one attached here?
