[RESOLVED] missing driver
before i even consider doing any upgrades to windows 10 at work, i decided to see if i could install it on my spare pc at home and see what's what. it's running vista.
i know that 10 is supposed to available only as an upgrade to 7 or 8 but i did read that you can work around this by putting the "test" version of 10 on your machine and it
will then upgrade with no problem.
i located the iso file named "en_windows_10_pro_10240_x86_dvd.iso", downloaded it through IE, burned it to a dvd using active iso burner, put that dvd in my spare pc and
fired it up.
during the "collecting information" phase of the install i get this error message: "a media driver your computer needs is missing. this could be a dvd, usb or hard disk
driver. if you have a cd, dvd or usb flash drive with the driver on it, please insert it now. blablabla".
the only thing i could think of is that this pc has a 8800gt graphics card and there is no driver for it in 10. so, i pulled the card and re-ran the install thinking it would
use the on-board video. to my surprise, it bypassed the 10 install completely and launched directly into vista.
my questions:
1) was i misinformed as to creating a test version of 10 on a visa machine?
2) what could be causing the media driver error?
any advice would be appreciated.
