Win 8 Help Please

I have a Toshiba L75D - A7280 laptop that has Win 8 installed. I need some help please

I accidentally installed a tool bar and some components last night. Delta Chrome , Delta Toolbar, Safe Saver are all one program, then I have another something called Pokki. I have gone to the uninstall section and got the Delta Chrome out but the others will not uninstall. It sits there and if I click on another to uninstall it says "please wait until program uninstalls" but t never does. How can I get these off?

Where is the start up feature? It used to be in msconfig in XP but cannot find it in Win 8. Cant I stop some programs from starting at boot up? If so how do I get there.

Will try to install Classic Shell tomorrow. Tried tonight but it will not install.

I am sure I will have other questions and thanks for the help.

I still think you should scan your system. Start with Malwarebytes first. If something is detected, then make a post in the VDR ICU.

You have to go to Desktop mode first, then run msconfig.

I also bought a Toshiba laptop last month. With Classic Shell it really is much more manageable.

I am so aggravated with this. I can download the Revo but it will not install, nothing will install! I have that stupid Norton on here as a trial, could that be the problem? Nothing will uninstall either.

Try the portable version of Revo. No installation. Just unzip and run.

Are you doing this from desktop mode? Are you logged in as an administrator?

I got Classic Shell in WITH the trial versions of Norton which I got rid of later.

Norton suite or some such it is free for 30 days I think. I will not keep it once trial expires or may just get rid of it as soon as I can get something to uninstall. Yes I am on the desk top or at least I think I am.

Press Windows key + D. That should bring up desktop mode if you aren't already in it. If you are in desktop mode, it will temporarily hide open programs/folders and take you to the main desktop (like in Windows 7).

Ok I got that hateful tool bar uninstalled by running the Revo portable. I will try and install the classic shell again in a bit.

Ok is the defender already there or do I need to install it?

Cannot get Classic Shell to install from any mirror site. It will download but not install.

The delta tool bar is still there. It does not show in programs but when I opened a new window it pops up as default search. I uninstalled it with the revo and it does not show there either, but it is here somewhere.

Did you try any other installs? Again, it didn't seem like Classic Shell was the problem before.

Did you scan for malware? I mentioned Malwarebytes earlier. If you can't install that, then there may be bigger issues.

You didn't verify that you are running as an administrator. You can also try right-clicking on the .exe and choosing "Run as administrator"

I did run it as administrator. I have not done the malwarebytes yet. I will try that now.

Not one thing will install, nothing. It is there but it will not istall.

At this point, it's not a Classic Shell problem. There is something else wrong with your system.

What about things not installing tho, will that be nortons that is stopping it?

You never said which Norton product you have. However, I don't recall any of their products blocking other installations unless they were infected. You could try disabling Norton, but I doubt that's the cause of your problem.

It has been sitting on system restore for over an hour.

Norton Sudio.

System restores can take a long time. It depends on how far back and how many files are being replaced. If you still see disk activity, let it run.

Norton Studio is not an antivirus product by itself. What is the actual antivirus you have? Norton Antivirus? Norton 360? Norton Internet Security?

It just says Norton™ Internet Security. It came with a 30 day trial.

There are no files on the laptop except what came on it because nothing will install. I got it on Monday the 22nd and only set up passwords, nothing else. It never finished the system restore. I just shut it down.

If it's brand new and you can't install anything, maybe you should just exchange it. This shouldn't be happening on a brand new system.

Or you could do a factory restore and just start from scratch.

Yes it is brand new. All we have done is set up my user name and my husband set up one but he has not used it and most likely won't or if he does he will not download any programs to it. The programs will download they just will not install when I try, none of them will, almost like they are blocked.

How do I do a factory reset? It did not come with any disks, but I did make the recovery disk. I would take it back but we cut the code off the box for the rebate :-( and they may not take it back.

Also do I have to download Win Defender or is it there already. I want to take Norton out.

As I stated before, Defender is already built-in. You don't need to download it.

Norton Internet Security (NIS) is kind of a resource hog. You can use the removal tool to get rid of it.

Ok guys. I got Norton uninstalled, got the win defender turned on and classic shell installed. It seems to be the hateful Norton that would not let things install. I have not done the factory reset because it seems to be working fine. I ran malware bytes and it did not show anything, no objects were found. That being said the Delta-Search is still there. I cannot find it anywhere, but it pops up as the default search engine.

So what should I do for that? Try system restore again?

Ok I went thru the process of uninstalling anything related to the Delta junk. Going to scan malwarebytes and post log in ICU.

There was nothing in the malwarebytes log. It says no infections found. So do I still need to post it?
