I see on the web page for "live cds", they mention " desktop" , are any of these to be used for laptops? or is "desktop" just the name they use?

I use Ubuntu 12.04 LTS for "Desktop" on my Netbook, without issue. The nice thing about a LiveCD is you can try it and check for compatibility issues before actually installing it.
did you download the ubuntu iso and burn it? for your live cd?
I actually use a LiveUSB,but the principle is the same.

i haven't bought a stick yet ever, heard the rumor of preloaded malware so i guess a cd or dvd will do\
tks
do you use ubuntu or any others?
To make sure there is nothing on the USB stick, do a Full format on it.
Tip: CD/DVDs are going the way of the floppy.
Yes, I use many different flavors of Unix. (Unix, Linux, AiIX, et al.).
if the dvds are going when will the drives disappear to play the library, or is it blue ray the next step ?
tks for the info
A lot of the newer laptops do not come with an optical drive CD or DVD.
Because the world is going streaming.
Neither Windows 8 nor RT support DVD movie playback.
Unless i misunderstand, win 8 pro does but not win 8?
Am i missing something?
tks
yup i was misinformed, somebody i called on a lap top pricing, said win pro, guess they missed one item?
tks
You're welcome.
Not sure what that link is? a quick check of Newegg.ca for a list of Laptops/Notebooks that don't come with an optical drive.
