2 front ports
2 back ports
none works
Look in device manager and what doe it say about the USB.
device manager different voices:
controller host standard pci to Usb .....working fine
controller open host ali from pci to usb................fine (4of them)
HUB USB.........................................................fine (4..)
I tried to auto update drivers ...and it says that there isn't a better driver than those
I can't get why is not possible to copy/paste from MS utilities
thanks
Go to Device Manager, remove all USB entries and reboot the computer.
what are you trying to use in the USB port(s)?
Maybe 'it' needs a driver
I tried to use all kind of things in there and nothing works : memory, camera, mouse.
by remove you mean disinstall all those 8 voices that open when you click in the DM USB ?
and than reboot?
Yes--that will re-install the drivers, what you have now may be corrupted.
done...now what......reactivate all usb's?
There should be no need to "reactivate" anything--see if your problem is gone. If it's still there someone smarter than I will be along to help you.
problem still there after fix trial....
ok,,,, before I back away (also)
Concentrate only on the USB ports on the back.
They should be built on the motherboard. The ones in the front can be questionable on any PC.
Did you check in the BIOS and see if they set to legacy,,, and/or enabled?
should usb in the bios be set to legacy?
In windows XP, I usually see it as legacy. Try both.
The only other thing I have seen is the dreaded (always sounds like a cop out),
V word. Virus. Virus issues can disable USB ports to stop you from bringing a fix into the PC.
Good luck....
I can't get into bios clicking on F8
should I run avast virus scan?
actually usb's is looong time not working maybe 3 years...if it was a virus something else should had happen....I would look some else...
Get your WinXP CD handy, then go to Start>Run and type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes (you don't get any report from the System File Checker, it just silently replaces and corrupt or missing system files that it finds).
It says hold down <del> key during startup
F8 won't get you to the BIOS. On boot up watch the screen and it should tell you what key to press. Delete and F2 are common.
runned SFC scan : but still not fixed
bios check :
USB devices enabled : NONE
USB comtroller : USB OHCI+ EHCI
USB2 controller mode : HI SPEED
biosEHCI hands off : ENABLED

TBH, if the ports haven't worked for 3 years, I don't think there is going to be a quick fix here. I think you are going to need to do a clean re-install of WinXP.
A clean install may do the trick, but it the ports are damaged, then it will take a new motherboard to fix the problem. Or get a USB PCI/PCI-E type card.
An add-in card with USB ports is a lot cheaper than an new motherboard and a lot less aggravation that a reinstall of Windows that may not fix the problem.
Absolutely--I did that at one time and it worked out fine.
there only is 1 PCIe slot, and of course the VC is in there.
there is one empty PCI I could use for a USB card though.
will it be fast enough/
For USB 1.1 and USB 2 it will be fast enough.

If you want to change the motherboard, you will have to re-install Windows afterwards. I still think a re-install is all that is needed anyway, IMO.
what about looking for USB new drivers in Asus site??
