It's gotten a lot less involved in the 12 years since that article was written, Dude. About time you do your own and put 98SE out to pasture - Microsoft stopped supporting it ages ago.
Well, more and more motherboards do not support the DOS Operating Systems.
It isn't very hard :)
Start off with something easy, like upgrading the RAM, and you'll soon gather confidence. That's how I started, adding a stick of RAM 11 years ago, and I've been building my own ever since. And they've all been far better than anything I could have bought ready-made :) :)

Really dated, but still good advice. One of several builds here at vdr where folks were helped.
Perhaps my ol' memory is goin' bad,but isn't this subject what this web site was created for?
And,,,does anyone remember a site called "No Wonder"??
Dang,,guess I'm gettin' old too!? :rolleyes::p
No Wonder was where I started on Internet forums, before I discovered this place :)
Yep,,same here Nick. No Wonder got me started.:)
I was also a member at No Wonder... First forum I ever joined.
98se is my favourite :)Quote:

Dude;
IF one can successfully plug a lamp plug into a wall socket, then one has all of the intellectual/physical skills needed to build a cornputer. Axe me, I've built about 6 and am gonna build anudder. :eek:
Not necessarily true. My sisters and brothers, all older than me, can do that but they have no clue about computers, building or using.Quote:

I joined here n 2002, and many members/moderators at that time helped me build my first PC. After that it was easier, and I've got a lot of builds under my belt since that time.
I suppose if you can successfully plug a lamp plug into a wall socket AND have it play Battlefield 3 at a reasonable frame rate, then you should be able to build a PC.
If you could do that on that, I'd see a patent office - you'd make a fortune.Quote:
